I believe i have pulse audio chosen for my setup but would have to look.the posting from another forum, all that info was from them,not me. I didnt have alot of problems getting started but will find out when i actually go from dummy load to antenna.
And the only rig i run on sstv softare either on ubuntu or imac is the ubitx v6.1

hope u get the physicals out of the way so you can play with the software. running cat is neat with the ubitx. brings back the fun in Radio.
