Re: Suggestion for the NEW UBITX V7.

Hi,

Like Farhan I do not see those screens as an improvement. I am happy enough with my V3. I made some changes to get it compliant regarding harmonics and other spurii, tamed the sidetone, and such things. I don't like the built-in keyer and I always use a stand alone keyer or straight key and have been practicing with a bug. I am considering a scratch build with still fewer "features".

I have had the opportunity to compare my homebrewed steel box cabinet with a couple of other uBitX rigs and mine is smaller. I cannot put the assembled uBitX into nor remove from the box. I have to disassemble it and then install/remove the individual boards. I don't want any "features" that require more real estate. And maybe cost more.

I have some radios here that do not have a direct reading dial but only a logging dial (zero to one hundred style). Compared to those the two line LCD in the V3 is a real *luxury* :)

Thomas and Farhan,

If color were the only addition to the stock display, then I would agree with Farhan that it is not much value-added.? The display on the v6 also adds more screen real estate AND a touchscreen.? Those are usability features that do make operation easier.? With the above, you still get to the point of cost vs feature.? If on a very tight budget, then putting up with the extra twists, pushes, and more limited information, then the extra cost of the v6 screen does not add any signal in or out improvement.

I was sorry to see the v5 bare-bones kit discontinued.? I much prefer the added features of a Nextion display, so if I were to purchase a uBitx now I would be throwing away the stock display to be replaced with the Nextion.? The other option is to discard the Raduino and substitute one with a Teensy MCU to allow for feature addition.

Above are my opinions and observations.? They may be in error, so use them at your own risk.
