Re: Where do you locate the mic and headphones connectors?

Mornin' Farhan:

I, too, don't want to sound pushy on connector locations. It's just a preference. One thing Al and I didn't think about when we started bread boarding the T41 was the location of the USB port on the Teensy. We placed it too close to the back panel, making it a PITA to attach the USB cable for reprogramming. We ended up adding one of these:

With a little forethought on our part, it could be avoided. As far as the SD card, you could push its contents out via the USB cable. Just a thought.

I get the message loud and clear, mic, headphones and keys to be on the front panel.
I will probably bring out a usb socket on the side/back. you won't need it much as the built-in sd card will have enough space to save your brag tapes. Its only use would be to back up your work (unless you push it to a server from inside the radio).

RF is a problem best avoided

Flex and K4 would be to awkward to take tramping, best used at home, with a foot switch. not in a small tent

I have a V4 uBitx, If I was to operate it only from home, then a foot operated switch might be an option

Maybe make design provision ?for wiring to separate jack, as an option for the builder, to be fitted if wanted.

The uBitx is light weight and fits in a tramping pack, making it ideal for portable operation with a small battery

Laying in a tent or sitting on a flat rock with the radio on your knees, or the ground beside you,

there is no way to use a foot switch, hand mike only, front mounted.

Internal speaker helps but headphones are better. I prefer a front socket,

Most commercial rigs have the head phone socket on the back, once again an option for the builder

It¡¯s your design and we are appreciative of you sharing your hard work and design skills with us.

Some things just have to fit in certain places

Whatever you design, someone will change it to suit themselves, and on this group we are fortunate they share their changes.

That¡¯s what this hobby is all about, and you will incorporate suitable design changes in the next version. (wont you)

Thank you to you, and the other contributors for sharing their wisdom and design skills, ?very much appreciated.

The mic is a peculiar beast, routing it to the back makes it pick up the RF from then PA.?

Having said that, I saw flex and k4 provide a separate jack for ptt. It makes it easier to wire in a foot switch or use a standard (Blue condenser!) mic.

So, should we do this or that?

Hi Ashhar

Put the microphone fitting on the front please.

Read any Radio magazine and the first thing a tester of a new Transceiver moans about is the position of the microphone.,

Front is best, low down on a corner? Please.

Key and head phone / speaker wiring always get in the road.

I would prefer both on the front for easy access, ?

Back is fine, you just have to stand up, and lean over to see to plug them in

My 2 cents worth

You are lucky that the rig didn't follow the mic cable into your lap. I have lived that one too...
