Re: Where do you locate the mic and headphones connectors?

I have a 6400 and I really like it. However, it is not easy for me to move it to see the back of the rig. Therefore, any time I want to plug in a key or change the mic, I have to go to the user's manual and read where the connectors are for the key, mic, and PPT so my blind fumbling around at least has a chance of connecting things up correctly. While those connectors may detract from the aesthetics of the front panel, I'll gladly trade that for easy of use.

The mic is a peculiar beast, routing it to the back makes it pick up the RF from then PA.?
Having said that, I saw flex and k4 provide a separate jack for ptt. It makes it easier to wire in a foot switch or use a standard (Blue condenser!) mic.
So, should we do this or that?

Hi Ashhar

Put the microphone fitting on the front please.

Read any Radio magazine and the first thing a tester of a new Transceiver moans about is the position of the microphone.,

Front is best, low down on a corner? Please.

Key and head phone / speaker wiring always get in the road.

I would prefer both on the front for easy access, ?

Back is fine, you just have to stand up, and lean over to see to plug them in

My 2 cents worth

You are lucky that the rig didn't follow the mic cable into your lap. I have lived that one too...

Ashhar - Could I suggest that you use a divorced "proper" screw-down 4 pin mic jack and plug?? I have often pulled the mic out of the front mounted mini phono jack during a QSO when I leaned back and increased the pull on the cable.? Very irritating...
