I suppose one could add a separate AM detector outboard of the uBITX. Problem though is that the IF passband may be a bit narrow for good AM. Then of course someone would want it to also transmit AM, which defeats
the purpose of having SSB capability.
If you take a good look at the uBITX schematic it might provide a basis for
designing and building your own AM receiver or transceiver.? Change the
capacitors in the IF filter to make it broader and replace the BFO and
mixer with a conventional diode detector.? If the BFO were retained you
could copy both AM and CW like we did way back with the 1930's rigs.
Could be an interesting way-back style rig.

Now that my V6 is modded to my liking the only other thing I wish it had was an AM mode.? This would make for a true general coverage communication receiver.? I actually ran into somebody working AM on 40m a while back.
