Does the noise decrease when you turn down the volume control?

An easy way to find which stage of the receiver is not working is to use a 24"(60cm) piece of wire (I use enameled magnetic wire with one end stripped), Disconnect the antenna,? and start with pin 3 of the LM386 (u1) and verify that the noise increases.? Then go to TP17, TP16, TP13, and TP1. Each step in that chain should increase the noise until you get to the antenna.? The character of the noise will change as well, with Pin 3 of u1 being powerline hum, and the further you go towards the antenna the more it sounds like radio static.

I got the above from a video I saw that I believe was from Ashhar Farhan that I cannot find again.? If it was from someone else I apologize for not getting the reference correct.

Please answer Ashhar Farhan's question on what test equipment that you have so that we know what tests to recommend.

Good luck in finding the issue.? Please feel free to post any questions and results to the group.
