There should be a page on the Nextion that can help with the calibration of the S Meter input.? Here is a link to a video where Dr. Lee uses the page to compare capacitor valujes:
The other point to remember is that the AGC output of the kit project AGC is 0 when the AGC is turned off.? I is only active when in fast or slow mode.
I modified a v6 with what you are trying to do for a friend and found that the best choice is to use the original S Meter op amp-based circuit if you want to have the S Meter functional when the AGC is off.? With all of the audio controls now wired through the mainboard, you can use the 8 pin header on the mainboard for the AGC amp connections and support.? Here is a picture of how i did it:

I also installed the RF Attenuation control suggested in the directions for the AGC kit.
