hollow-state is probably a non-starter for me.
I recently bough a cheap two stage vacuum pump and am having a lot of fun learning about the ins and out of keeping a vacuum.?
First I'm trying simple, before rushing out and buying KF fittings and stainless steel pipes, including using vinyl tubing, polyethylene?tubing and brass parts. Even with this I can get better than a 12 torr vacuum. And just the slightest leak, a couple of hundred torr.?
Learned how to drill holes in glass and making some chambers out of small strong (thick) glass sealed storage jars. Have learned how to glue polypropylene, as well.
?
I can now make plasma glows on electrodes and other fun stuff. However, I've seen some DIY diffusion pump designs. I might just try building a DIY triode in a test tube using epoxy to seal the bottom to another glass plate. (So it won't last forever, may have to pump it down again (and again).)?
Might be fun to see if a board that includes a microprocessor or other modern electronics can be combined with free standing electron tube parts on a circuit board and the whole "hybrid" system be pumped down into a working vacuum module.?
