I agree 100% with Evan. If it ain't fun then it's like a job! Can I suggest you get a uBITX with just a 2 line LCD display (not sure what you have now). There are minimal menus to work with and thus less frustration. From what you describe, your project is overwhelming you beyond what you expected. This kit was never intended to be a plug n play radio. Perhaps solicit the help of another Ham and work on it as a team project. We have done that locally with great success here in VE land.
