Removing the antenna connection gets rid of the noise.? That led
me astray in the beginning... I thought I was picking up radiated
signals.? Later work showed that to not be the source.
One thing DID make a difference that I didn't mention - the
grounding to the "dog house" (cover to the engine, inside the body
of the van) was... inadequate to put it mildly.? They grounded it
through the wiring harness, running back through the wires to a
connection near the fuse block.? Proper grounding to the frame cut
the ignition noise by at least 20db (didn't eliminate it, however
- and it was still over S9 in strength - estimated).? The direct
wiring did eliminate almost all of it, until I changed the audio
out jack.
It may be coming in through the
grounding.? A faraday shield could help eliminate that
possibility.? I could also try a second direct ground strap
(having multiple ground connections to the frame of the van - very
low impedance setup).

I'd start with a complete Faraday cage, perhaps of aluminum foil,
completely surrounding the rig.
No penetrations for headphones, antenna, or power.

I'm not sure I have something that could act like a
faraday shield available, but that's a good idea.? I'll try the
metal tape route first... and if that works, report it.? If I
have this problem, it's likely someone else will have something
similar.? (I wish I had access to a sputtering device, I'd strip
everything out of the cabinet it came in and turn that into
transparent shielding - if it could withstand the sputtering!)
