Re: New stuff from W0EB/W2CTX/N5IB "Triumvirate Skonk Worx" #ubitx

Nice effort guys. This is going to be a valuable upgrade to my V4 uBitx. However, in the long run I would like to see a version of your board that includes a high bit-rate audio I2S CODEC, possibly the SG5000 (for compatibility with the Teensy audio library). This would serve as a building block for the implementation of more sophisticated DSP mechanisms. Such mechanisms will include: filtering and generation/recovery of SSB signals and other modulation schemes, speech processing and variable bandwidth control, on the ARM processor.? By utilizing the multiple DMA channels available on the Teensy uC, high performance real-time activities at low power are all possible.

Perhaps what I am envisioning is a departure from the uBitx basic architecture, since by resorting to DSP at audio frequencies, the whole 2nd. IF system and the Xtal filter may no longer be needed. However, if we take an evolutionary and open source approach to the art, there is no reason to be limited by the base architecture and as Frahan already expressed, open source is all about participation and contribution for moving the art forward.

Those of you that already have or are interested in our BITeensio (Teensy 3.6 MPU) card for the uBITX take a look at the "TSW" website, and you will see a preview of some things to come.? The Color TFT display shown is NOT a Nextion as we abandoned attempts to use the Nextion display.? Unfortunately the Nextion and it's editor are "Single Source" meaning you can get it (mainly the editor as there are closes of the display) from only ONE place.? Not so with the ILI9341 based TFT Color Displays and also the larger RA8875 based displays for which a 5" one is the next project being worked on.

The finishing touches are being tweaked for the 2.8" version shown installed in one of my uBITX radios on the website.? A small wireless keyboard turns out to be a nice addition as you can control the radio completely from the KB and you have the added benefit of a built in Keyboard type CW keyer.? You can also use a plug-in USB keyboard as long as you don't use a lighted one as the lighted keyboards draw too much current from the Teensy's on-board USB hotst power supply./
