Re: GPS data via BITX

Hello Resti,

It depends what you mean by "via bitx". If you mean without the addition of an external device, I don't know of such a solution, but it may have been done by someone. It is technically feasible with a serial gps connected to a beefed-up Arduino (Teensy for example), but I don't know of an existing software for the (u)bitx. The round the world balloon launching Hams have some simple solutions using RTTY and other modes.

If you mean with an additional device, and in that case via"any radio", this is what I use for sending positions over HF (now will be "via uBitx"..hihi):?

- On the transmission side? I use AndPskmail which is an Android app that uses the internal GPS of the phone. It uses a number of modes, some of which can easily be used in a phone's speaker to bitx microphone configuration to send position reports. A digital interface is better for regular position reports, but not essential for casual ones. I get good success with MFSK16, THOR11, THOR22 and MFSK32 for position reports depending on the conditions.

- On the receiving side I use jPskmail? which runs on Linux and Windows and I activates its iGate function so that received position reports are forwarded to the APRS network and can been seen in aprs.fi web pages for example.

For the receiving side you can use the more elaborate (and Linux only) Pskmail server (installation is more involved).

Hope that helps,
