Re: Open letter to the uBITX community from Jim Sheldon, W0EB. #ubitx

Hah! ?Somehow I don't think that Lockheed Martin would even bother with me since I didn't name a company the "Skunk Works" and just used it like so many other people have, in passing, as a joking reference to things that were a bit out of the ordinary in their development. ?I certainly don't think the uBITX could even remotely be considered a "U.S. Defense Project" - LOL!

I used to be a huge fan of Al Capp's "Lil Abner" comic strip when I was a kid, even before I got "eddicated" enough to understand some of the really subtle humor he wrote into his characters and their antics. ?Not only that but he was able to do that without someone crying "FOUL" on him and everyone enjoyed it. ?

I gotta admit though I think "Skonk Worx" would be a more appropriate name for our little group if we were ever to create a company out of it (highly unlikely) - LOL.

I suppose when Jim gets sued by Lockheed for using the term "skunk works" in an forum thread,
he can switch using "skonk works".? Al Capp may not mind so much anymore.

Wikipedia confirms the Al Capp genesis, in the section toward the end under "Term Origin":
? ??

"The ¡°Skonk Works" was a dilapidated factory located on the remote outskirts of?, in the backwoods of?. According to the strip, scores of locals were done in yearly by the toxic fumes of the concentrated "skonk oil", which was brewed and barreled daily by "Big Barnsmell" by grinding dead??and worn shoes into a smoldering?, for some mysterious, unspecified purpose."

Or Jim could move to some other country when he gets sued.
Britain's already taken, with a business that seems much closer to Al Capp's original intent:
? ??
"Our investigator bought a ?10 Formula X ¡°chemical pellet¡± containing ingredients derived from coal tar and crude oil and El Blanco, what appears to be a cocaine substitute, for ?25."
