Tuning Display Problem #bitx40help

I recently completed putting together my BitX40 kit.? The only modification I made to it was substituting a 10K-10 turn potentiometer for the original pot.? I obtained the kit last December and the original sketch has NOT been replaced in the Raduino.

The time arrived to supply power to the kit.? As I did so, the kit came alive with a few squeals, howls and ticking noises and then settled down.? I had no indication on the display screen.?

So, I powered down and remembered that I had read in the forum to check out the Raduino by removing it from the kit and powering it up with the Arduino IDE program.? To make a long story short, I did that and the display immediately came alive with a display.? I checked my wiring in the kit and that was as it should be, i.e. the correct wires were hooked up to the correct pins and all grounds were in place.?

I put back the Raduino into the case and hooked up the two connectors and again applied power.? This time, the display lit up and the display ticked up to 7.100 and remained there. There was no change in the display frequency as I moved the tuning shaft. I powered down the unit and unplugged the tuning control from the Raduino.? I checked the 10K pot for resistance? and could see that it was operating correctly although it seemed that I needed to reverse the outer wires, leaving the violet wire connected to the wiper. (I changed the wire positions because the 1 turn pot outside connections were reversed comparing it to the 10 turn pot.

When I powered it up, this time the display ticked DOWN to 6.999. Turning the tuning shaft again resulted in no change to the displayed frequency.

In searching the forum for ¡®BitX40 tuning problems, I came up with a posting written by Allard (for version 1.04) concerning the optional use of a 10 turn tuning pot.? He writes that two lines of code in the sketch need to be changed to allow smooth operation across the entire band.?

Is my failure to change those two lines of code the reason why I can¡¯t change the frequency on my display or are there are there other problems that would cause this?

BTW, I do have adequate audio and a change in RF noise is very prominent when I attach an antenna.

Thanks for any and all suggestions¡.Keith - ??AG?H
