That is a silicon diode with a 0.6v-1.0v drop.?? A better choice
would be a Schottky diode, such as this one from Amazon

20 pcs for $6.99 isn't bad!? With only a 0.2v drop, it's very
unobtrusive and handles up to 15a of current.
