After changing the IRF, did you set the 100mA current with the bias preset pot (blue) ?

Set the blue preset fully clockwise and see what current you get. When you press PTT the current will not change much. Slowly
advance the preset anticlockwise till the final draws 100Ma or increases total current by 100mA.

High current also happens if the gate is open.
