Hmm, good question. An American asked me recently what a "jubilee clip" was - that was a struggle.
?
A tap washer is a thin shim of rubber/nylon/fibre that fits inside a water tap (faucet?) - like in the bathroom - so that when the water valve is closed there are no leaks.
?
Does this help at all?
?
If this doesn't help and you need some pictures of tap washers I can take some and upload to the reflector?for you.
?
Maybe we need a photo album called "what is a tap washer"
?

Please could somebody explain to a non-native speaker what "tap washers"
are and where to source them??

I guess this must be some sort of "plastic toroid" (ab)used as a coil former.
But what is its original use?
