Re: 3D Printer Suggestions

+1 on the Prusa. My nephew bought one and we assembled it. Works very well. He got the platform leveler upgrade recently. It has been working well for over a year now. He has done many big/long prints with it. And the thing is still in production, many of the lower end printers have come and gone in the last year.

My first was the wooden box models with 2 heads.? This was 3 years ago.? $500 from So. El Monte Ca.

I made it simpler, removed a head and changed the extruder.?? Works good now.

Now I bought 2 more Hictops as kits.? I bought several extra parts as well a all metal extrusion head on eBay.

The Hictop brand on eBay is THE BEST for the money.? Get the ALL Aluminum model.? I got one because

it was repackaged and had some used parts.? At that time $229.? My friend bought several too.? Before he paid

$2k for a popular brand the doesn't make as big parts.

You can get them for about $300.?? You just can't beat them.? You have to build them.? I took days and had problems.

My friend spent a few hours!?? On a new one get 24 V PS, older was 12V like mine.? Get Auto Zero sensor too.

Some models they sold had the Z axes rods with just a simple thread.? Get the one with the Square thread.

But, I got changed mine for less than $20 by buying the Square ones and retrofitted.

I don't know about the filament counter, not needed.? They are programed with Arduino.? Just like Raduino!

I have programmed my several times, in fact I changed the whole board out when I had programming problems.

There is quite a learning curve.? There is a yahoo group and "Henry" is very helpful!

I also use Simply3D to convert STL files to print files.? Would never go back to the Free programs!

I would not like to be in the 3D printer business competing with these!? I a going to give my classic wooden box to a friend.

I also used supports, the big Knob is hollowed out some places. I made
2, both came out perfect.? Simply3D makes me an Expert!

Takes a exacto knife to dig out the supports.

I love that program.? If you don't have a 6-32 tap, you can heat up a
long 6-32 screw (held in vice grips) and thread the holes.
