Frustrating.
I did find several listings on eBay if that is suitable. All located in
China however so subject to several weeks wait for shipping
All about $15 to $19 USD
I am surprised that there are not more listings.

We haven't found any other boards that are what Jack recommends so
looks like I'll be using a whole bunch of wire jumpers to fit a
larger Mega 2560 into the circuit.<br>

right Arduino. That is the Nano Pro Mini,
which should cost less than $2. Essentially,
it's a Nano, but without the convenience of
the USB connector, which makes it a PITA to
program. You need to find a MEGA 2560 Pro
Mini to get the expanded memory and I/O
