Re: zBitx order held by DHL #zbitx

Hate to continue this, but Wes is 100% correct. I have purchased many radios , computers ,etc directly from foreign countries and I have to pay any tariffs. DHL is the agent and they will not release or deliver the item to me until I pay them as agent. Wes is also correct about the "de minimus" issue.

Just to be clear, tariffs, also called import duties, are taxes paid on foreign goods paid by the importer in the destination country. For instance, if Joe Ham W1ZXY travels to Japan, then flies home with a new $2500 Yaesu transceiver in his luggage, he will pay any tariff to US Customs before he can exit to the public area of the airport. Ask any international traveler about the customs declaration he or she has to fill out before landing in the USA. Shippers like DHL can act as agents for US Customs. The buyer pays DHL, who in turn handles the paperwork and pays the government.

This is completely separate from the question of whether any import duty will be charged to American buyers of sBitx and zBitx. If the $800 "de minimis" exemption still applies to products made in India, there should be no charge at the border, at least until the next sudden change in tariff policy.

Sorry for going somewhat off-topic.

You also wont have pay a tariff here in the US because a Tariff is charged to the supplier and not the receiver and is not charged to them until the package is in the US itself.??

People have posted about having to pay DHL or someone when they receive the ZbitX but that is specific to the country they are in and not the US.? ?
