I am able to use grig to change the zbitx frequencies if I start grig with:?
grig -m 2 -r
so my optinion is that there is something missing from the zbitx hamlib.c?

Same issue here. I am looking for the settings I used on my Sbitx, to see if that?helps.
As you indicated ft8 rx is working TX or any cat commands don't work
