The entire feature of the Sbitx radio is that it is SDR. It is not a static once built that it all the radio it will ever be.
With SDR each and every software change has a direct effect on the radio.
There many advances in radio technology not all advances are hardware changes.
If the advance is not a hardware change then the only thing left is a Software change.
The Question then is can the Software change(s) be implemented within the Raspberry Pi
