I *think* what you're looking for is not necessarily the ability to run WINLINK and maybe VARA/HF *on* the sBITX, but rather are looking for the sBITX to emulated a supported radio's CAT commands to allow one with an external computer running WINLINK to control an sBITX.? Yes?

? ?I've participated in a handful of EMCOM exercises and traffic nets in the past using both my Kenwood radios and my uBITX/WA2EBY combo.? I've tried to use PAT on a Pi in the past and was unable to accomplish after weeks of head-scratching and some proper sailor's language (hi) what I can do easily using WINLINK.

? ?These days, however, I'm afloat, and use WINLINK and VARA/HF regularly for both email and to receive GRIB (1) weather/sea state data when I'm too far off shore for a cellphone connection.? I also use my uBITX to receive weather FAX transmissions (using JWX (2)).? Both require using an external computer? ?I have skipped the sBITX radios specifically because I can do what I need with the uBITX series, and apparently cannot yet do with an sBITX.? (Also because my uBITX V6 radio is handling the marine environment beautifully, while the Pi 4s I've used for marine network translation have rusted badly after a year in service and become a consumable item, even when boxed.)

? ?CAT emulation of an existing commercial radio would open up new users for the sBITX (and zBITX?) radios - and would not require shoehorning more programs into the SD card.
