And Dave, you are totally right - DDR5, new south-bridge with _MUCH_ improved IO, and RTC with rechargeable battery circuitry (PCIe, NVME suport, and so on...). I totally support a new case for the sBitx v4+, which can accommodate the Pi 5 new ports layout (we lose one USB 2 port access with the current box). The price difference between the Pi 4 and Pi 5 is very small to justify keep going with the Pi 4.

So, how does that work?? You are plugging Pi 5 into the sbitx, so does it know to not use the power coming in from the GPIO pins and use the USB-C path?? I was having a hard time figuring out if I had to modify the sbitx to not put power onto the GPIO pins if I chose to use external power for the Pi 5.? ?Yet I think we both would like to find power settings that would allow us to still use the GPIO pins for power while staying within the capabilities of the sbitx's regulator to deliver power.

Agree.? There is so much faster about the Pi 5 beyond the CPU clock rate. For instance it has something like 2x the bandwidth to main memory, can read sdcard faster, etc.? ?IMO this is not about tech nerds playing with the new toy, it's about moving forward with the times.
