I agree with this approach.

In my opinion you definitely need one sdcard backup, because if you read install.txt in the sbitx folder you see there are various configuration files in various places that need to have sbitx specific content in them.

The sbitx/data/hw_settings.ini can be backed up more frequently but it appears to me that while its contents are unique for a given board, it should not be changing.? Mine still has a date on it that corresponds to the factory calibration and hasn't changed since. The important thing is if you have multiple boards to back up and restore each unique file for each board correctly.

The sbitx/data/user_settings.ini does change a lot, every time you change bands.? I haven't seen it get destroyed yet but it makes sense to prepare for that possibility.

So I suggest that a minimal strategy for a backup would be to use the 'SD Card Copier' utility and a usb sdcard carrier to make one backup copy of the sdcard, then make more frequent backups either via the network (ssh, FileZilla, Samba, etc) or to fixed storage (usb thumb drive or usb sdcard carrier, etc).
