I spent some time this weekend with the uBitx V6 and an external Timewave DSP-599ZX in CW mode.? Now the AGC button makes sense.? It's very impressive!? You know how you can listen to WSJT signals with an open filter receiver, you can just barely detect the presence of a signal yet the sound card copies 100%.? The AGC button with no signal (or no antenna), the noise floor explodes in the AGC mode.? But present the faintest of signal in the passband and the AGC button makes it simply explode out of the noise.? Very Q5 copy on signals you would miss just tuning around.? It's very impressive.? The depth of the upper and lower variable skirts on SSB and in CW mode is simply amazing.? Tune a few tens of hertz away at the edges of the filter and signals just disappear without a trace.? The skirts are so steep it is almost annoying because you can stop down the CW filter to 50 Hz and never know somebody else is in the passband except for the "OVERLOAD" LED flashing for no apparent reason.? And no ringing!? In fact, I suspect that using this external audio filter in conjunction with an internal AGC on the uBitx V6 would be counter productive.
Impressive.
Also, I mis-spoke in my original post.? I said the DSP took 0.79 Amps.? But the total current draw on Rx for the uBitx (0.29A) is 0.79 Amps for both the Rx and DSP unit.
