It is working a LOT better. So there is some weird interaction between Bookworm 64 bit and my USB3 NVMe setup, one that did not show itself on Buster 32 bit. I can't explain it. The important thing is it looks like I have an acceptable way to work with Bookworm 64 bit. Now I'll try Rafael's WiringPi repo.
