The Grazing Waiver is a regulatory program designed to balance water quality protection and sustainable ranching in the North San Francisco Bay region. Implemented by the San Francisco Regional Water Quality Control Board (“Water Board”), this grazing waiver streamlines permitting for agricultural operations and establishes annual monitoring, reporting, and assessment standards. By requiring best management practices (BMPs) to minimize erosion, reduce runoff, and protect local waterways, the waiver helps safeguard the health of Tomales Bay, Sonoma Creek, the Napa River. The proposed Grazing Waiver update would also expand the existing program to the Petaluma River watershed and Point Reyes National Seashore. This program plays a vital role in preserving the region’s food production while ensuring that healthy watersheds and thriving working lands can coexist for generations to come. Before I went in to 7th grade, I was sent to “Fat Camp” for two months because my parents wanted to give me chance at a “normal” middle school experience. I lost weight that summer, and then gained it back which continued to be the pattern for the next 20 years! I have lost 100lbs or more… TWICE! In 2003 I went from 325 pounds to 165 pounds and the second time was during the pandemic when I went from 235 pounds to 135 pounds! Both instances were diametrically opposed in methodology. The later was characterized by my keeping front of mind my white hot intention to take is slowly and humanely. After a life of fad diets and taking extreme measures, I knew I still had opportunity to embrace a new lifestyle rather than live on a really restrictive plan for a period of time. I discovered Dr. Michael Greger and NutritionFacts.org and my passion for Whole Food Plant-Based nutrition was ignited. What I have learned… This is a Process, not an Event! For me, the most important consideration is to be kind and loving with myself… all ways, always! Tell Congress to take immediate action to stop these actions and protect imperiled wildlife. Manatees. Black-footed ferrets. Spotted owls. Endangered species across the country — from Florida to the Great Plains to the Pacific Northwest — have just been pushed closer to extinction by Elon Musk and his tech-bro army at the so-called Department of Government Efficiency. DOGE recently fired thousands of federal workers at the U.S. Department of the Interior and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, including at least 400 U.S. Fish and Wildlife employees — 4% of the agency’s entire workforce. Many people fired were field biologists working on the ground to protect and recover some of the country’s most imperiled animals and plants and the wild places where they live. The dangerous effects of these mass firings are starting to come into focus. The Crystal National Wildlife Refuge lost two of only eight full-time staff members, which is bound to hurt Florida manatees because that’s the only refuge dedicated to protecting them. Surveys crucial to northern spotted owls’ survival won’t occur this year. The loss of five staff members at the Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge on Hawai’i have jeopardized vital work to cultivate endangered native plants and remove invasive species for the benefit of critically endangered honeycreepers. And at NOAA, even the scientist who worked day and night to protect imperiled orcas from an oil spill — and was then named 2023 employee of the year for the western United States — was fired with no warning. It’s not too late to stop this madness. Thanks to public outrage over the indiscriminate firings, more and more members of Congress are demanding accountability from unelected Elon Musk and DOGE, and as a result federal agencies have started rehiring recently fired employees. Now more than ever, Congress needs to do everything it can to stop the wholesale dismantling of our federal government. Tell your representative and senators to reverse these harmful staff cuts in the upcoming government-spending deal to help protect the United States’ natural heritage for generations to come. Tofurky and the History of Vegan Food We were honored to have a legend on the podcast! Seth Tibbott founded Turtle Island Foods in 1980, now the “Tofurky Company.” Then in 1995, Seth introduced the first nationally marketed vegan holiday roast called “Tofurky” which soon became the most well-known meat alternative brand in the US. Tofurky is now a household word and it has been mentioned on numerous TV shows, including The X-Files, The Tonight Show, and even as the answer to a $400 question on Jeopardy. He has chronicled his “40-year overnight success story” in a new book, In Search of the Wild Tofurky.
