Tuning not starting

Kestutis Zobelius

Hi all, hope someone can help. I build the atu v.3 now got power on, oled shows everything as it is. Got only one button so can do reset or tune. Then in the tune mode and applying no matter what power from my flex-6300 in am or fm mode tuning not initiated. So now stuck in thoughts what's can be wring and where to start look for a problem. Not sure if that can be PIC issue and needs reprogramming/replacing but as I said after powering on boot initiated.

Thank you for your replies all, regards Kes m0pkz .

Do you have a display attached? If so what does the power and SWR reading say?
If the PIC don't 'see' enough power or SWR it may not tune.

Your problem could be as simple as a cold solder joint in one or more wires from the ferrite. If so your power and/or SWR reading should be way off.

Hi, yes display is on and working, no matter what powwer I send nothing happening? Can it be faulty pic?

Do you mean no power is written presented on the didplay (i.e. 0 watt) or power and SWR is correctly written but no tuning anyway?

Examine the soldering and wireing of the copper wires used by the SWR measuring ferrite. Is there real connection to the copper or is there enamel residues left on the copper in the soldering e.g? If possible measur the connections with a multimeter. I don't have the dchematic in front of me so can not give more detailed example of how.

Here is the video. Soldering looks ok. And got continuity on swr bridge wiring

Hi,
When transmitting, check the DC voltages at the diodes outputs and also at pins 2 and 3 of the PIC.

If it stays in "TUNE"" it can be an insufficient input power.

Best regards,

I'm sorry not to answer sooner. I cannot read the numbers in your video WHEN you transmit on my small phone screen.
Take a close up picture when transmitting and PM or post here or to my email address on QRZ for example.

Hello,

I know it's a while ago, but did you ever get your ATU-100 to work? I am having the same issue with mine and looking for any troubleshooting.

Thanks

hi Ryan,
perhaps the diodes at the bridge don‘t work as they should. If possible change them both(!) to BAT41 or equivalent. There were multiple issues with this (search for ?BAT41“ ).
Hope, it helps…

Hello,

Thanks for responding. I checked my board and per the schematic and parts listed on it, it states that it has BAT41 diodes installed. They are both matching black diodes on the underside of the board.

Should I change them out anyway?

hi Ryan,

sorry, but first the question: do you apply more than 5W HF (CW, AM or FM) to start tuning??

Before changing the diodes, you should make some little measurements with an Ohm-meter to see, if the diodes are indeed diodes...

From Anode to GND you should measure abt. 25 ohms, from cathode to GND you should have more than 68k.

If not, change them both. There were some issues with the diodes I know.

Hello,

Yes, I've tried applying 10-20w of power without success.

I'll check the diodes when I get home from work and let you know. Thank you for the input.

Hello,

I get 87.4 ohm (identical) on one side and OL on the other. Should I replace?

Hello?

Sorry. 87.2ohm on one side and 0.2 on the other side for both diodes.

hi Ryan,
you should change them. Do the measurements again when both are desoldered to be sure, that not a capacitor has a short way… This also is possible. You will see.?

Sorry Ryan, I missed, that T2 of the bridge goes just to GND. So 0.2ohms should be ok... not 25, as I said first.
Make another measurement across the diodes, both ways. You should see a difference, one direction lower resistance, other direction higher value.

again sorry for confusion... But I think the diodes are deef... (And the 87 ohms are too low.)?

Hello,

Thanks for responding. I ordered some BAT41 diodes that should arrive in the next couple days.?

I'll let you know how it goes.?

Thanks again for all of your help!
