I think it still only uses the top two lines and I think it may have to be 16 characters

Yes but he was asking about 20x04 display

20 characters over 4 lines instead 16 charactes over 2 lines.

Towards the end of that video it shows what I think is a 16 x 04

which works but only uses the top two lines, so there is no beneft to using 4 lines on the bigger display.

So stick to a 16 x 02
