ATU-100 as internal tuner #atu-100

Aaron K5ATG

Hello everyone,
  • I'm installing an ATU-100 in the chassis of a uBITX QRP Transceiver to be used as an internal ATU. I am removing the BNC connector from the uBITX. Then I will install a BNC to the back panel of the radio. I need to know how I should connect the antenna on the uBITX to the ATU-100 and then connect the ATU-100 to the BNC on the back panel. Should I use solid copper wire for these connections? (On a previous ATU-100 that I bought the connections from the BNC connectors to the ATU-100 board was done with solid copper wire)?
  • Should I make the connections with coaxial cable (If so what size cable should I use?)

If the connections are very short then solid copper will be fine! If long then I would use coax (screened) as any rf that is radiated may interfere with other components withing the radio. And maybe interfere with the matching process you aim to achieve. I'm no expert, but that's the way I see it. If using coax of course ground the screen to the case of the unit. Steve M7HME. ???
