Relay S8
Evening all.? I have been testing the ATU. I can switch on with all Auto Bypass and hold and takes me to Fast Mode as it should.? All of my relays are activated as I can see all of the LED's are lit up.? So far so good.
Then I can switch on with the Bypass and Auto switches held in and go up one relay at a time until all one side of the relays are switched on and then press the Tune switch to switch over from C to L or visa Versa and also walk both sides of the relays off by observing the LEDs.? BUT Relay S8 is activated all of the time on my board.? As soon as you switch the ATU on S8 Relay switches on.? This cannot be correct or Is it correct? ??
I am just about to check all of the relays to see if the contacts are actually switching over.
Regards David? ?G4RVH

Re: Testing ATU-100 help
Afternoon David.
Finally finished off the project and tested out all the Mode switching and all ok.? Attached video of me walking up the Inductance from minimum to maximum and then click the Tune button to switch over to the Capacitance and doing the same and of course can walk them both down to Zero again.

Re: ATU-1000, ATU-500
Hello Richard,
I just got ATU-500 in assembled form from here:
?
Seems to be working fine. Sometimes takes a few tries to get a tune and sometimes it cannot get the best tune (expectable, all depends on mismatch level). Didn't used it much. Just played with it a bit trying to tune my EFHW on bands it's not tuned for. Seems to be tuning fine at 10-15W from my FT-891.? I got a higher power unit to minimize internal losses when used at power levels up to 100W, so not sure how it will hold higher power levels.
?
Here is a couple of "inside" pictures as I couldn't find any online for assembled units:
Seems to be assembled fine. I was hoping for better capacitors but looks like they just used an SMD ones.
?
Best Regards,
Simon

Hello David.? Thankyou for your kind words.? And yes Ham Radio is a wonderful hobby.? I passed my WhisperLite onto a women electronics engineer just because I hadn't made it.? So ended up with a W3PM using a AD9850 DDS chip but then built another so that I can change onto any frequency of my choice.? ?73s G4RVH |
Re: Testing ATU-100 help
Hi David, All fully understood and great to see all of your WSPR spots. I have got a SOTABeams WSPRlite in a cupboard somewhere, but I have not used it for a few years, there are always lots of projects to be tinkering with!! Any for now, I wish you and your XYL all the best, and I hope you keep enjoying Amateur Radio, it¡¯s a wonderful hobby. 73, Dave |
Re: Testing ATU-100 help
Oh I forgot to mention that the DP0POL Station is the Research Ice Breaker that's normally stationed down in the South Antarctica and they listen to my Beacon regularly down there but they are test up at the North Pole area at the moment.?
See if I can find there new ship in my gallery.? 73s? G4RVH |
Re: Testing ATU-100 help
Good Morning David.? Thankyou for explaing to Chris for me.? I've been busy helping my wife whom has has MS for 25 years now so limited to the time I spend on a project like this one.? It's not a problem at all to me as love to help her. Anyhow here is a photo of the last 24 hours WSPR.? You probably do the same at your end.? Just 100 milli-watts at the moment.? HF conditions are very good as you will be aware. |
Re: Testing ATU-100 help
Good Morning Chris.? David has explained fully.? Bought the PCB off Ebay.? Soldered a Pic into the board from AliExpress. Bought a PicKit3 and programmed V3.2 then altered correct Cell for my Oled. I've been experimenting with WSPR constantly for 8 years here.? My aerial system is h/b doublet with h/b 400 ohm feeder. But I require this ATU-100 for experimenting on different frequency constantly.? Earlier this summer I was heard down in VK & ZL on just 1 milli-watt.. at the moment running 100 milli-watts so covering of course the whole planet |
Re: Testing ATU-100 help
Hi Chris, My understanding is that David (G4RVH) has built the board from scratch and therefore some of the components are what were available. - The electrolytic capacitors are across the relay coils. Pre-built boards have 1uF SMDs. - A diode has been added across each relay coil to reduce the back EMF. This is not strictly necessary and using a diode without the capacitor could cause a problem due to rectified RF energising the relays. - A series resistor and LED have been added in parallel with the relay coil for test purposes, so that there is an indication of which relays are energised. Hopefully, that covers your question. 73, Dave (G8PTN) |
Re: Testing ATU-100 help
Hello David,? yes All noted.? I will check with my multimeter the correct current being drawn because that's a very old homebrew PSU.? I will let you know after measuring properly.
If you google G4RVH look up G4RVH WordPress page on my PicaTune that I built.? Very successfull design. I used to chat to Peter Rhodes G3XJP on the homebrew net 3.666 daily but that was years ago as we were all actively building homebrew multiband transceivers.? Mike Greison G3TSO and I were always nattering and Dave Marschall G2MA.? G8WV Norman Sedgewick from Newport Pagnell was a friend of my dad's? G4VVH

Re: Testing ATU-100 help
Hi David,
Yes, the resistors look fine. PS: Did you see the previous thread regarding the current consumption with your setup? /g/ATU100/message/3183 73, Dave |
