Hi Tim,

Yes, I have 20 turnss.
See the diagram in the attachment and I did.
If you have 27 turns (you are using firmware 3.2), what is the value entered in EEprom cell 31 - 99?

Have you actually counted the turns on your coupler ?

Mine has 27, so that's what I had to input to mine and its working just fine.

Hi,

The thing has been used on 2 systems, windows 7 64bit and windows 10 64bit.

The other interesting detail is the programmer (pickit2) can handle easily the 1938 pic whether if if powered or not powered. No hassle then to do the job and program the options.

I'm quite satisfied being able to use my "old" stuff, as I wasn't so motivated to buy other hardware just for that job.

Last but not least, the the pickit2 can be used to program as well AVR chips (i.e. arduino boards), so definitely this small "old" programmer is an interesting piece of hardware to have and use.(and quite cheap now to buy now)

Re: PIC16f1938 and changing eeprom

Hi,

That's good to hear! Which operating system did you use??

I could program the pic controller using a Linux tool but whatever I tried I could not use the microchip programmer software. I have tried emulators, virtual box and even windows 10 on a separate disk. None was working.?

In the end I bought a pickit 4 which has drivers for Linux too. Works really well.?

Hi,

FYI a pickit2 works fine with the? 1938...

The device just need to be updated once with the latest available firmware, and the pic is recognized w/o probs...

Software to use is "Pickit 2 V 2.61", and the device update is made trough this sw. Is then possible to read and program the ATU with a new HEX or change the available options.

Re: ATU-10

I'm not aware of any kits.???

For assembly of smd parts, some places like JLCPCB for example will only load components on one side. The ATU-10 has quite a few parts on the bottom.

Hi Marek,

Have you actually counted the turns on your coupler ?

Hi all, Here's one of my "0805" boards, all assembled.??? (I have now built 4 x ATU-10s !!) I don't have the correct BN43-1502 balun core so used a BN43-302 which is a bit longer.

I used David's original test program to check operation of all relays is correct. Unfortunately at present, my QRP rig is not available right now, so I can't test full functionality but have no reason to believe it won't work just fine..

This one will be fitted into a 82mm wide case that I have already.

Hi David,

Great and I will test this weekend. It's busy at work right now and evening I need some off computer time instead.?

I have updated the github repo to add the missing files (and updated some of the files).

For the compiler, you will need to download the XC8 compiler, which I think also comes from MPLAB? (if you google how to use MPLAB, they will include a link to their compilers)

ATU-10 Manual Mode Test wirmware #file-notice

Hi All
Manual mode firmware for test here.
Connect two additional buttons to Ext connector, temporary just for play with this FW. Those are "+" and "-" buttons.

Re: Bypass/Tune question

Thank you David and Onno

I have decoupled both Bypass and Tune buttons with 22nf (the only SMD caps I have) caps as close to the processor pins as possible and the tuner copes very well at 100w now.

Tuner faults were:
3 faulty caps (47, 470 and 1000pf)
2 faulty relay driver fets (affecting selection of the 1000pf cap and 0.05uH inductor)
1 faulty plated through hole
Open circuit on one of the bridge sense windings
Faulty or inadequate caps decoupling the bridge sense winding outputs (replaced with 22nf)

For a brand new ready constructed unit....pretty poor!

Re: Is it really working completely? #atu-100

Thanks for the reply. Yes I checked those items and I even changed a relay to be sure. AFter the first comment and more thinking and research, I now think it is the last two toroids or at least one of them that begins to look capacitive at some point. This might be due to poor core material and it does not work as the original spec says. This was a clone and I do not know anything about the toroids and since most manufacturers have their own recipe it could be that this one is not good. I suspect a step might be to get the amidon cores and remake the toroids and see it their is a difference in their performance. This time around I will measure them before I install them and see what I can learn.

Re: Bypass/Tune question

Hi, Steve
Most likely that is RF interferences to buttons wires.
Auto and Bypass lines should be grounded with 0.1uF 0603 SMT capacitor on the board close to PIC processor nodes.
Those are optional buttons and the board does not have needed components.

Re: Bypass/Tune question

Sounds like the processor detects overload condition which would trigger the bypass mode? Does the display show overload??

What did you fix on the tuner to make it work again??

Hi

After successfully repairing an ATU-100 I find that although the tuner works well, it tends to switch from auto mode to bypass mode when more than about 75-80watts is used. Has anyone else noticed this or found a reason....or am I just expecting too much from this device!

Re: Programming & compiling from github source code

You can download the compilers for free.

Once installed you can select the 8/16/32 bits compiler you need. For the ATU you need the 8 bit controller.

Hope this helps. Best regards Onno
