Re: diameter of wire in binocular winding

I doubt that it is all that critical. I know, when winding toroid inductors, that the wire diameter makes surprisingly little difference.

diameter of wire in binocular winding

hi.
?short story i mess the provided wire for binocular winding in my kit and only can build one side of binocular with this wire, i have a similar diameter wire and wind the other side, so my question is, is important wind both sides with same gauge of wire or if i keep the ratio 10:1? this thing no matters?.? i must wind both sides with the same wire?

Hi, Bill
I am sure, an SDR with a wide visual panorama is the best.
Something like RSP or clones

Suffering an S5+ base noise level. Noise filter set at 2. Vol set at 10.
Any advise on how to reduce the static level?

Re: winding toroids - not seeing what I expect.

Thank you.??

Yes. Opened a support ticket.? Below 1uH, it does not work well.? The meter is autoranging. So cannot pick the range.

I have another meter that has a 2uH range coming today..

Re: winding toroids - not seeing what I expect.

Hi, Michael
Most likely the autamatic range select does not work properly.?
Try to select 40uH range manually and do a calibration on this range.?
I can say something stupid, i am not familiar with that LCR meter.?

Re: How is the tuner getting the L and C information while tuning?

Hi.?
That's just a script with math. You can set up your own LC values in the pic cells while progtamming.?

How is the tuner getting the L and C information while tuning?

Hello,

This has probably been answered before, but I am a bit late in the game with this project.? Does the tuner take the LC values on screen from script by doing the math by looking at the fixed values of the inductors and capacitors while they are being switched?? If not, is the script getting the screen information by looking at the values as if it were a LCR meter?? Hopefully the latter.?? If the information is of a LCR meter type then I have some other ideas for this project that I would like to try out.
Thanks...

Re: winding toroids - not seeing what I expect.

Toroid cores uH values can vary depending on how they are wound. If you scrunch all the turns together, the inductance is higher. Take a look at page 4 of 'Q-Curves' on the Micrometals website...

I wouldn't worry too much if you're off by 10% in either direction.

winding toroids - not seeing what I expect.

To make sure I am winding correctly I am trying to measure the toroids with. a B&K 880

One confusing point is called for inductance is 0.45uH for L4.? But multiple the calculators call for 9 turns.? 8 turns is 0.36uH.

Second confusing point is the meter does not want to measure it.? getting -1.??? H. with alligator or kelvin. I calibrate before using either lead.

I have known good inductors.? 1Uh and above, and they test correctly.

Am I over thinking this? yeah probably, Just wind and go, just trust the instructions?

Ok, thanks David.

I’ve ordered a replacement and as long as this one doesn’t lock up or turn itself off I can get along fine without the change in button behavior.

Thanks for all your work on this design.

Aside from the flakey HW glitches mine has, I love the little guy.

Hi. No, that is not so easy, you can do changing button function and recompile FW with MikroE MikroC compilator.?

Re: ATU10-New Dipole tune

Hi, Bill
You can disable automatic mode changing some cell in the FW hex file.?
After that you can use ATU-10 like simple SWR meter to build curves.?

Thank you Mike for your response. I am running QRP (1-3watts) with a USDR type xcvr. I have a HeathKit HM-102 200w/2000w SWR Bridge. I am trying to avoid having to go buy a LP swr bridge. My thought was use the SWR function of the ATU10 with the tuner function on bypass, or perhaps mod the HM102 to work on LP.

?

From Al, K2ZN (thank you Al): “The ATU-10 doesn't have a bypass mode in the traditional sense. After a reset, it will wait until it sees TX power that causes the directional coupler to report a VSWR greater than the programmed value - I believe the default is 1.3? Because of this, you won't be able to create a useful VSWR curve across the band. You're better off obtaining a bridge or a NanoVNA.”

?

Apparently the first idea will not work as the ATU10 has no traditional bypass.

?

I believe the HM102 can be mod to work at 1-20w by changing two resistors forming the voltage divider in the meter circuit.

?

Does anyone have any experience with the HM102 to convert it to LP? I have the schematic and manuals, if anyone is willing to help take a shot at it. We can compare notes. It should be a relatively easy hack.

?

Thank you all for the feedback.

Because when trimming for best performance for a Dipole the aerial is , or should be, resonant at the operating frequency. Therefore? an ATU is not required.
Depending on where in the band you want it resonant,? and how narrow the bandwidth of the Dipole you might, once the aerial is trimmed correctly, use an ATU to help widen the acceptable bandwidth.
Just use an? SWR meter. Don't forget that changing the feeder length will effect the apparent SWR but if you just trim the aerial for 'best SWR then it should be about right.

Re: Change Turn on Press Timer

Greetings David.
Yes that is correct.
Is there a way in FW to change those timers?
I'm just me, but I would prefer a short press for tune, 1 Sec to power off, and 3 sec to reset.
Thanks!
