Re: ATU-100 Setting
Hi Arron.
So the TUNE button is used when the ATU/100 is in the NonAUTO mode to set it to tune your Setup for your radio. Press this till the TUNE shows on the display, then key the mic and send a signal to get the tuner to work. The AUTO button switched between AUTO and NonAUTO. When in AUTO mode Keying the mic and sending a signal makes the ATU/100 tune automatically IF the setup is not already in tune. this can happen often if your setup is not stable, or you are using a big band, as the SWR will change as you go from one end of the band to the other. The BYP button bypasses the ATU/100 so it will not tune at all. For use when you have a tuned antenna fitted.? I'm sure others will offer more in depth help here, but hope this helps a little Vaughn |
Re: ATU 10 by-pass
Hi, Bill
The ATU 10 does not have dedicated circuit to do a bypass, but when it is reseted, all inductances are shorted and all the capacitances are disconnected? . It is equal to short in and out. Trough tandem match, of course.? Take a look on the schematic for this understanding. |
Re: ATU 10 by-pass
Hi Bill, I agree with the comment from Immo.
You have ¡°Setup 1¡±, so the MFJ will see the unmatched SWR. If you want to compare the matched readings, you need to try ¡°Setup 2¡±. When the ATU-10 is reset, all parallel capacitors are disabled, and the series inductors are shorted (effectively bypass). 73, Dave |
Re: ATU 10 by-pass
Hello, David;
Everyone's responses are greatly appreciated. However, Unfortunately, I am finding them conflicting and hence confusing. Let me make sure I have this correct. Talking about the ATU10 (NOT the ATU100): If I hit reset, and then immediately turn the unit off, It will essentially be in a by-pass mode? Input shorted to output? Is that correct? If this is so, then the ATU10 DOES have a by-pass mode. This would explain why, when I have the equipment set up in the order of: xcvr then ATU10 then MFJ then ant configuration, and I turn off the ATU10, I still get normal power and swr readings on the MFJ, yes? With ATU10 on and working, after hitting reset and putting it in tune mode, at for example 7.150Mhz,, AUT10 gives me 1.5 swr @ 1.4w, while the MFJ is reading 4.0-4.5 swr @ 2.5w. I am not sure how to reconcile these diverse readings? Then, following your though if I am clear, after I reset/off the ATU10, the MFJ gives swr 4.0 @ 3w.; a small difference. Is this significant? Thoughts? |
Re: ATU 10 by-pass
Hello, David;
I have a uSDX going to an MFJ-872 swr/pwr meter to the ATU-10 to the antenna. I use the MFJ because I like to confirm the accuracy of the AUT10 swr and power readings. I find some significant differences. Good question is which do you trust more? As I play with diff antennas, I need to test the swr across several points on several bands. Rather than having to disconnect the ATU10 each time, I thought it would be easier to just turn it off and throw the by-pass switch, Would you put the MFJ before the ATU10 closest to the transmitter, or after the ATU10 closest to the antenna? And why? Thoughts? |

11:22am #2651 Is there any reason I could not install a small DPDT manual switch (push button perhaps) to simply move the in/out jack connections from normal to shorted? I this is an acceptable, old school, solution, it brings up HF RF Switch requirements. Are there any special switch specs to adhere to? Any one have a part number/source for a simple small DPDT PB switch I could add to the unit? |

Re: Best site to purchase an ATU-10?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThis one: From Malahit on Amazon is a good one. I¡¯ve used it very regularly for 2 weeks now with my QMX and QDXs with no issues. I tried 2 others at a lower price and they both had random issues with the display and total lock-ups. 1.6 is the latest firmware. ? Randy ? I want to use an ATU-10 for my new QRP-Labs QMX radio, but I don't know the most reliable source to order one from: AliBaba, Amazon, or E-Bay? ? Also, what is the latest firmware currently available? ? Thanks! ? Rich, KY6O ? |
Re: ATU 10 by-pass
I wonder ATU 10 is different from ATU 100. 10 use latch relay which will remain in its previos stage when turned off. 100 will switch off all relays when turned off. Both 10 and 100 dont have bypass function, so ATU 10 will still tune antenna when it is auto swiched off. Correct me?if i am wrong. 73 Wilson de VR2XLQ On Sat, Nov 11, 2023, 5:43 AM Tom Twist via <tom=[email protected]> wrote: There is no way to disconnect the antenna from the input. |
