Re: Chinese clones - not working as expected #ATU-10

Hi.?
OK, I will implement zero position for L and C.
That is not a big problem.
Also I can do a manual tuning L and C with additional buttons + and - connected to Ext port .

Re: #ATU-10 VK3PE build complete. #ATU-10

Hello Ellis,

How much output did/do You use in FT8 via the ATU-10, I think 5W is possible to much?

Re: #1KW #1KW

I can only think about the swr bridge being different with the potentiometers. The pic controller adc is the same. I have looked for alignment information but unfortunately.?

Instead the easiest alignment is to run full power and measure the max voltage towards the adc. Depending on the pic controller you need to adjust or 4 or 5 volt. I don't remember the exact value unfortunately.

For the rest the circuit is exactly the same as the atu-100. Just bigger components, larger PCB traces.?

I don't understand why the pic controller code should be different. Except for the high power factor and bridge coil turns.?

Hope you can find the information as eu2av shared with you.

Best regards Onno

But it's not just about EE, so EU2AV wrote to me that there are even changes in Flash, I don't remember what it was about, whether it was a power measurement gear or something else, and that's why it was done on version 2.7 because in version 3, x broaks memory space.
That's why I'm asking, maybe David will suggest something?

Hi Marek,

3.2 works fine in the ATU1000

BUT... Make a copy of the eeprom data 1st. ( this is what I didn't do with mine and it took a while to work out the cell values )

This is because the EU2AV version uses different L & C for the tuner and you will also need to know the turns ratio for cell 31 and check that cell 30 is set to 01. All that is in your eeprom data

When you update the s/w to 3.2 you will have to input the cell data you copied from your old version and write that to the PIC.

You can then do a read of the PIC to make sure that all is as expected and then export that as a hex file as a backup for just-in-case.

Many thanks, this is more than I asked for but will be extremely useful as I actually need the same thing as what SP5GNI has done, so it is "off the shelf" for me!

#ATU-10 VK3PE build complete. #ATU-10

Hi, I have completed my build and made my first FT8 QSOs today.?

The battery life seems poor, but I may have managed to get low capacity batteries.? There are batteries available on eBay In the UK with wires attached, but they are non-rechargeable so be careful.? I chose to use AA battery holders to avoid soldering to the batteries.? This may give me problems using the case I have ordered.

I was worried about the usb socket shorting to the micro USB pins so I stuck a bit of Kapton tape to the socket before attaching.

My TP4056 boards did not have suitable capacitors (micro USB variety) or only 1 (USB C variety) do I had to order those.

I have no 220K resistors so R19 is two in series manhattan style.

Programming the PIC16F1454 in circuit using my picking required power from the USB.? ?A temporary wire from the 3.3v supply from the programmer to the chip gave me an over current error.

All in all I am very pleased and have another complete set so I will be building another.? A third will have to wait for more relays and mosfets.

I still have 12 spare PCBs if anyone in the UK is interested.? I have sent some to the EU and I am waiting to hear if they arrived OK and if VAT had to be paid.

Re: Chinese clones - not working as expected #ATU-10

Hi David, yes I know the test firmware and it¡¯s very helpful for checking relays. However can we have a special state to bypass all the inductors or capacitors? My understanding is with the current test firmware, if we switch between inductor and capacitor testings, there is always one inductor or capacitor activated and that interferes with VNA measurements on individual component. I¡¯m thinking perhaps adding L0 and C0 in the loop to indicate bypassing all the inductors/capacitors. Thanks again for your great work! 73 de kn6pzo

Hi, All
Please notice that my GitHub contains a special test firmware. I hope it would be helpful in issues fixing.

Hello all,

I am a bit confused by the dozens of offers one can find on internet for an ATU100, is there a "trusted seller" that you would recommend ? Alternatively, are they all good or are there suppliers to definitely avoid ?

Also I want to double check, is it OK to operate the ATU remotely ? It is to put on a boat so the ATU will be below deck where the antenna exits which is hard to access, the plan is to simply switch on the power supply before operating and to let the ATU do its work.

Re: Chinese clones - not working as expected #ATU-10

I¡¯ve spent too much time on fixing them. The problem is caused by cold solder joints. The first one I ordered had cold solder joints on the relay of L3 so it could not bypass L3 to achieve low swr. Another issue is the pcb is too wide for the case so it¡¯s extremely hard to attempt to fix. A few weeks ago I almost fixed all the issues to make it work perfectly, then ESD destroyed the MOSFET of relay for L7 so it became useless. I then ordered the second one. Today the second one arrived. Unfortunately it had similar issues. Swr is 5+ with 50ohm dummy load. The seller told me he tested before shipping so I think it¡¯s cold solder joints again. I think the seller/builder doesn¡¯t know how to do proper soldering. It¡¯s a such a pity as the seller seems to be sourcing high quality components for building it.?

Re: Programming & compiling from github source code

Hi Dave!

This sounds great and I really look forward to this project!

------
The approach really depends on one very important thing. Approval from the repository owner who wrote the software. I assume it is David F. but I am not sure about it.
------

I have experience with assembly and pic controllers. GitHub I am using almost daily for my work developing java backend applications. Programming with C is not a normal environment for me but I expect it will come back pretty quickly.?

I have a pickit 4 and I installed the ide and ice application. Both work well on Linux. Also installed the MCC plugin which is a great help to built a C template for config and pin assignment.?

Regarding git we could clone / fork the project or create a new branch from master to another branch with a name representing the work. Latter permission is needed as far as I remember using a public repository.?

I just want to make sure we have the approval from the owner of the original code first.?

Best regards Onno

I agree with David F that we will have to replace the library functions.??

Question for David F:? Would you be interested if we did this in a way that allowed the sources to be built under EITHER tool chain?? And then we could avoid forking the source tree (based upon the tool chain)???

While I agree the MikroC version would work 'as-is', it costs $250 just for the assembler/compiler/linker.

Onno, I'm not a frequent user of github, so I'm not sure how easy it would be for us to co-develop this feature.? If you are already well into it, I could just let you go 'first'.??
