Re: using the atu-100 om ny mast

ok but i see no way on that schematic how to get the dc out from the coax to power the atu,am i missing something apart from my marbles? lol.73 m3vuv.

Hello Paul,
No, this is VERY FAR from what you need. It is made for receiving purposes and it cannot handle any transmit power.
You will need something that can handle the power, a bit like the MFJ-4116

I would replicate the schematic, it will be cheaper, and would wind the inductors myself on ferrite rods.

Hi all i want to place my atu-100 at the feedpoint of my doublet,i am looking at a bias "T" to power it,would this do the job? https://es.aliexpress.com/item/1005003617906899.html?spm=a2g0o.detail.1000014.1.34791633Hp4mAj&gps-id=pcDetailBottomMoreOtherSeller&scm=1007.40000.326746.0&scm_id=1007.40000.326746.0&scm-url=1007.40000.326746.0&pvid=6e73b53c-fd68-4c8b-b28b-4766b0fac23b&_t=gps-id:pcDetailBottomMoreOtherSeller,scm-url:1007.40000.326746.0,pvid:6e73b53c-fd68-4c8b-b28b-4766b0fac23b,tpp_buckets:668%232846%238108%23161&pdp_ext_f=%7B%22sku_id%22%3A%2212000026518562564%22%2C%22sceneId%22%3A%2230050%22%7D&pdp_npi=3%40dis%21GBP%215.82%215.24%21%21%21%21%21%40211b801516777403562911664ed43d%2112000026518562564%21rec%21UK%212308464272,seems ok to get dc onto the coax but what is needed at the other end?,cheers m3vuv.

Re: New version of control PCB #1KW

Hello Paul,
No, RC7 and RC6 are already used in capacitor switching. This would require David to redo lots of code, but if he does, I can do another version with RS485 on a PCB.
?In general my idea is to build a good plug-and-play box at the antenna, fully automatic and standalone.

Re: ATU-10 kit or build - newdiytech.com website

One option, and what I would do now that I have built one, is order all the parts for 10 and sell 9 kits. It spreads out the shipping cost and 9 other people get a chance to build. Taping SMDs onto a sheet of paper with the identification number (eg C19) makes it easy for the builder.?

Hi?Russell,

Thanks a lot for your opinion!

I have found that the buyer protection on Aliexpress is pretty good...
Seems you were more lucky than me. I once had problems and only got?automatic, but misleading replies.?
Anyways, I just wrote a message to Up Tech Store, let's see if I get an answer.?

...building your own ATU-10 is the preferred option, as one can buy the parts from reliable vendors.
If there would be a kit, I would definitely go this route. But when I have to order from different vendors and paying all import and handling fees, the total price would be too expensive.?

From all portable QRP ATUs I looked at, the ATU-10 looks like the most interesting to me, since I can use it with any TRX and install it where an ATU belongs: at the antenna feed point. No button to press on the ATU. Otherwise the Icom AH-705 could be another option, with IP54 ingress protection rating and a more practical TRX cable/antenna layout. I never understood why both BNC connectors are on the same side. IMHO, this makes only sense if you want to include the antenna coax in the matching network, which may incur coax losses and moreover one needs an additional coax cable. Unfortunately, that's how the majority of QRP ATUs are mechanically designed.

Re: New version of control PCB #1KW

Can we make sure the UART is pinned out so there can be the option of having a remote control using RS485?

would like to ask David for help - can you please take out BYPASS bit to this pin? RA7 is already RTS, no need for inverse.
The PCB is trough-hole for ease of experimentation, but later I will do an SMT type one.
I will start designing a whole new low loss, low SWR RF section, having a better layout for less mutual coupling in inductors, proper bypass and new bridge - more accurate and based on AD8310.
The Gerbers for all of you who would like to build this PCB are attached.

New version of control PCB #1KW

Hello!
My name is Bill, LZ1SWE.
I have reworked the control board using PIC16F1938 and MIC2981/82 as drivers, dispensing of the myriad of transistors to drive the relays. This simplified the PCB and reduced the size, and I went for trough hole, because
I will start working on a new RF deck/PCB layout soon, with different relays and especially coil positions to reduce mutual coupling and losses, especially for the 1kW.
I have taken RA6 to a driver and I hope that David would help here - can you please take a BYPASS to that pin, so I can build a proper low loss and low SWR bypass section?
RA7 already has the RTS signal for transmitter control, and inverted is not really necessary
I have Gerber's for all of you, that might like to build this for themselves, they are attached.

Re: ATU-10 kit or build - newdiytech.com website

My opinion only, but if you want to buy from newdiytech, I would use their Aliexpress store, which is uptech. I have found that the buyer protection on Aliexpress is pretty good, as long as you are willing to document any issues you find with your purchase.

However, I would have to say that building your own ATU-10 is the preferred option, as one can buy the parts from reliable vendors.

ATU-10 kit or build - newdiytech.com website

I'm looking for an ATU-10 kit (preferably) or build. Since I didn't find a kit, I was looking where to buy an already built ATU-10.

I read some recommendations for newdiytech.com that is also an official supplier of?the?(tr)uSDX.

So I wanted to ask New DIY some questions before ordering, but could not find any email address on their website.
Also, after creating an account, I never received a email to validate my email address and the account password can't be changed. So all quite strange and IMHO not trustfully.
If I can't contact the seller, how I'm supposed to communicate when there is a problem with their product?

Thanks for any tips or opinions on that matter!

?I was having trouble with my ATU tuning on 15 M and above. It would attempt to tune, but the display would reset and the tuner would repeatably attempt to re-tune. Tuning on the lower bands was quick and steady.

I assumed that RF getting into the tuner electronics was the problem, so I added a single sided PC board to both the top and bottom of the tuner PC board. The fiberglass side of these boards was placed against the tuner electronics and the copper clad side was attached to ground. Sort of a "tuner sandwich". Problem solved.

The tuner now works on all bands without any problem.

Re: ATU100 QRP Mod

Edited

I have now? completed the QRP mod.? Thanks again for all your help.??

Having just gone through this I have a couple of suggestions that may be useful? for those new to this as I was.

For hardware I used a? Clone PIC2 programmer? with V2.61 software running on a Windows 7 computer.?
Before programming the ATU-100? I updated the programmer using the V2.61 software.
This hardware configuation worked perfectly.?

After getting the Pic2 programmer setup I tried to read the PIC in the ATU-100.? Because it was write protected all I got were 00 in every cell.? ?Although I could not read the cells? this told me? that I was properly connected to the ATU-100 PIC.? If you are lucky enough that your PIC is not write protected all you have to do is change the necessary Eprom cells and Write back.?Following carefully the connections and programming steps set out in the? excellent youtube video on this by IK3SSG.

If like me, your PIC is write protected then there are a couple of more steps to follow.?
1.? Go to the ATU-100 Github page (N7DDC-ATU-100-mini-and-extended-boards) and download the firmware file (likely?1938_EXT_board_sources_V_3.2)? and extract the HEX from the Zip file to your desktop
2.? You do not need to erase the? ATU-100 pic before programming.? ?
3.?Import the Hex file you downloaded? into the PIC software? (Files Tab )
4.? You can make the changes to it before writing it to the? ATU-100 PIC.?
5.? I changed the Eprom data as follows:
a)display cells from 4E to 78 and 01 to 05;
b) the minimum power cell? from 05 to 01;
c) the maximum power cell to 40 (although I will only be running with a max of 5 watts)
d) the turns cell from 10? to 05
What each of the cells controls is? documented in the manual and the steps are shown in the??IK3SSG Youtube video
3.? Before writing? back to the ATU-100 PIC? I went into the Tools tab at the top and clicked OFF the Enable Code Protect and Enable Data Protect.? I found that if you don't disable these you cannot read the PIC after it has been written with the new software.

Re: ATU100 QRP Mod

Thank you for the help.
Was? nervous about reflashing the PIC since the the current settings are blocked (all 00).
Good to go from here.

Re: ATU100 QRP Mod

Hi.
You have to configure first sells for oled using. The tuner uses LCD 2x16 by default.
Read the manual above for more info.?

Re: ATU100 QRP Mod

hi Francis,
a good help may be the manual to the ATU100 (I append)
for 10W you should use 5 turns on the bridge, 7 turns for 50W.
Any case you should verify the settings of the eeprom-cells following the manual (pages 11 to...)

ATU100 QRP Mod

I am working on doing the QRP mod for the ATU100 kit I have built.? Like others I have encountered the problem where the PIC was locked when programmed so it will require a re-flash using the hex obtained from Github.? The question I have is when I flash the eprom with the original 3.2 software? will I have to change (or check) other eprom settings in addition to the 3 that are documented for the QRP mod.?
