Retailed - second definition from my copy of a 1936 Websters Collegiate - "to tell again or to tell many; relate in detail"
I found an old dictionary like mine to better understand Bill's word usage of his days?

Would this definition of 'Retailing' add any clarity?
?
relate or repeat (a story) in detail.
"his inimitable way of retailing a diverting anecdote"
?
Bill Did tell stories and experience over and over again!?

Re: Quote from AA Service Manual Appendix A: ¡°A.A.¡¯S LEGACY OF SERVICE,¡± BILL W. (1951)

Probably the reason Bill W. "retailed" the hospitalization route was because that was the only way to get 'newcomers.'. At that time, he didn't have computers, AA meetings, TV or smart phones...just hospitals. Especially when Sister Ignatia called.? Today is a different time.

Re: The Empty Jug, July 1946

I saw a copy of it on ebay, but it looks like the auction ended in January. Not sure if it was actually bid on and sold or just removed from auction.? I sent an inquiry to the seller. it was listed for $799.99.

Re: The Empty Jug, July 1946

Brian,

Just back from Texas. Thank you for your concern. It's been long enough for me not to remember my original request. Duh. Can you refresh my memory?

Clarence quote

A quote attributed to Clarence Snyder: "Never say 'No' to A.A."
Where is it?? It's not apocryphal.? I saw it once but didn't make a note of the source.?

Re: Unspiritual short version of our Traditions

Hello
1)?There is a GREAT LETTER IN THE STEPPING STONES ONLINE ARCHIVES THAT CAN'T BE PUBLISHED HERE BUT YOU CAN FIND IT BY REGISTERING AND SEARCHING THOSE ARCHIVES HERE:?

And once registered, SPECIFICALLY AT this link

In a handwritten note to Dr. Bob on June 17, 1949, Bill talked about ¡°shortening¡± the original form of the Traditions...

2) Also--not a letter but a talk
"One day he came down to Bedford Hills after the long form of the Traditions were written out at some length, because in the office we were forever having to answer questions about Group troubles, so the original Traditions were longer and covered more possibilities of trouble. Earl looked at me rather quizzically and he said ¡°Bill, don¡¯t you get it through your thick head that these drunks do not like to read. They will listen for a while but they will not read anything. Now, you want to capsule these Traditions as simply as are the Twelve Steps to Recovery.¡±

So he and I started the capsulizing process, which lasted a day or two and that put the Traditions into their present (short) form." Read all of the talk here: (Transcribed from tape. Chicago, IL, February 1951)??

Looking for source of a Bill W. quote

On p. 322 of Pass It On, Bill W. is quoted as saying, "My personal life may not be exemplary, but I have never made a mistake about A.A." No sources are listed in the back of the book for anything on that page.

Does anyone know where and/or when Bill said or wrote this?

20 Questions

I'm seeking information about the origins/practices of the following self-assessment.
?
?
These questions were developed by Dr. Robert V. Seliger (Johns Hopkins Hospital).? How did they get into A.A.?? How have they been used?? Is it commonly used today?
?
It is of interest to me that the 20 Questions are on the San Fernando Valley Central Office website because this is where Narcotics Anonymous originated.? And NA's first booklet (1954) includes an adaptation of these questions.
?
Thanks,
?
Chris

Yes looks like the wrong date, probably a typo. I'll see what I can do about fixing that and getting a fixed version uploaded as soon as I can.?
