Hello All & Happy New Year
In Doctor Bob's Nightmare, (p166/177 in my 4th edition), he talks about being 'in the employ of a large manufacturing concern, selling railway supplies, gas engines of all sorts, and many other items of heavy hardware'. I wondered, if anyone had any further information on what the name of this 'concern' was and any other info which may be pertinent ? Raj in the United Kingdom |

And so did AA History Lovers. 2021 marks the 20th year of it's existence. From Nancy Olsen creating AA History Buffs in 2001, then losing it over an email issue where she could no longer log in to admin it, she created AAHL, also on Yahoo groups. She then gave it to Glenn Chesnut before she passed and Glenn did a remarkable and incredible job for many years, until 2019 when Glenn chose to give it to me, and I accepted. I am doing my best, especially with Yahoo shutting groups down, to make the migration and future growth to this awesome groups.io platform (and Facebook, which as I write this, just crossed 4,300 members!) continue to flourish. I knew, when I took over AAHL, that even though this (groups.io) platform is amazing and much better than Yahoo groups ever was, a lot of people who are interested in AA History who would want access to us but would want to be more, how shall I say, "entertained by it" rather than to be "academic" about it. I thought and prayed about it and this is why I decided to relaunch on these two platforms. Two platforms, different focus and even angle, yet one Unified group. Now, people can take their pick or choose both and we get to keep this nice and dialed in and academic over here! Score! :) There is a lot being done in the background for release here in 2021. You will notice soon the file bases starting to grow rapidly (and if anyone wants to help with that let me know), We will have not only writing and documents and more but audiovisual material as well. We do have the space to host plenty of it, too. :) We will have to pass the hat again in a couple of months to pay the yearly bill, but we will deal with it when we get near that date. Glenn's daughter, Esa, is also sending me a batch at a time, much of Glenn's archives which I am combing through and will be digitizing (what I can share, obviously some is too personal) and making available here on an ongoing bases. That project will be launching in 2021 as well. And there is so much more, including whatever you all decide to contribute. Oh and of course the missing messages. I do have them, they were badly mangled in the transfer from Yahoo groups and there was no fixing it from them, it is what it is, but they are being pruned, repaired and released in 2021. I will get this done. Then we will have everything online again, all 20 years! And searchable this time! The point I am trying to make is that even though there are some real challenges going on in the world right now, here at AAHL we are trudging through it, coming out stronger and will continue to work towards being and maintaining one of the pre-eminent bodies and groups for the study and sharing of AA historical research material on the internet. We cooperate with everyone, we are always happy to assist and we encourage anyone and everyone to join us and share the love and fascination of AA History. Happy New Year!? Thank you for sharing Thom. It's fascinating to read your margin notes. I feel like I know you just a little better now, and that's a good thing. ¡ª Peter S. Issaquah, Washington On Mon, Dec 28, 2020 at 3:09 PM Thom R. <thomr021092@...> wrote: I'm happy to share. Here you go! |

Yitzy Rabinowitz here.?
I think that the first paragraph is more of a stretch. I always said that I like the second paragraph and that it's my favorite one in the book, because it has all the steps.? I'm also not sure why the 12th step is split into three parts, although I understand the intent. I feel that it just complicates things.? |
Re: Another Early Version of the Steps?
I have always chalked this up to Bill maybe going back and editing those chapters to be more in line with what the 12 steps said. Or, that the "word-of-mouth-program" had already evolved to where the 12 steps could easily be pulled out, and that is how he got them in the first place.

Further 90x90 commentary
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThe attachment and the excerpt below offer two views concerning the AA slogan: ¡°Ninety meetings in ninety days.¡±? I think it is notable that both these comments come from Cleveland. The excerpt ?below goes back to Cleveland¡¯s early AA days to give us a time when the 90 x 90 had its origin. ??? ? ¡°After Clarence talked to me at my home, others would come over and talk to me. They wouldn¡¯t let you in a meeting just by one guy talking to you, as they do now. They felt you should know something about what you were going to hear and the purpose of the program. Then Clarence made me go to the home of one of the newer members every night for 3 months, and they had 9 or 10 people talking to me. Then I had to read the Big Book before I went to my first meeting. As a result, I think I had a better understanding of what they were trying to do.¡± From Doctor Bob and the Good Old Timers, Page 169. So apparently this 90x90 idea began almost 80 years ago. Re: Another Early Version of the Steps?
This is great, thank you.
"But obviously you cannot transmit something you haven't got." My interpretation is 12a, transmitting the spiritual essence and solution. I can transmit the knowledge, but if I haven't had the experience myself, that's about all I can do. I think an argument could be made for 6,7,8,9--or some combination as well. If I'm not practicing the principles in some aspect of my life where I'm abjectly falling short, I think it's more difficult to transmit that solution, but again, I can transmit the knowledge. If I've righted my domestic troubles or some undesirable character trait, I can transmit that experience. That's a big distinction for me: transmitting a felt experience versus sharing knowledge or some interpretation of our program.? |
