Re: AA History from Bob S
Thank you, this is exciting! My next question would be, would we be able to host the complete (and ongoing) set here? If, for example, you sent me all of them in whatever individual format you have them in, I'm guessing probably PDF but I can deal with anything, I would create a folder in our file section with your name on it and we could just keep them all there for people to browse, download and learn from.
Whenever you publish a new one simply posted to the regular AHL and I'll make sure that the PDF gets added to the files section as well.? This is truly brilliant work and I would love to do this for everyone.? Would that work for you or do you have some other idea? Of course I'm open to any suggestions on whatever is convenient and comfortable for you. Thank you!? Best,? Thom R. |

Bill's Story: major changes
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýEighty-two years ago Bill Wilson had begun writing the pre-manuscript drafts for our Big Book which included ¡°Bill¡¯s Story.¡±? ?The many changes that followed are illustrated here in the two attachments and the following manuscript link. The attached first and second Pre-Manuscript drafts of ¡°Bill¡¯s Story¡± were written during the late spring of 1938. Re: Buchman: An attempt for peace
For a far more comprehensive and nuanced take on Frank Buchman, see "" Here are several quotes:?
It is within this context that Buchman's "quest for world peace, included attending two Nazi rallies and lunching with Himmler wherein they discussed "politics and spirituality." (citation: ,?Philip Boobbyer)?Heinrich Himmler, of course, was Reichsfuhrer-SS, head of the Gestapo and the Waffen-SS, the architect of the mass murder of Jews in the Third Reich.?Keep in mind this meeting was in 1936, less than a year after German Parliament passed the anti-Semitic ¡°Nuremberg Laws,¡± the ¡°National Citizens Law,¡± and the ¡°Law for the Protection of German Blood and German Honor.¡± These laws were the basis for the exclusion of Jews ... from all public business life and for the reclassification of the political rights of Jewish citizens. The Jews are returned to the legal position they had occupied in Germany before their emancipation in the 19th century. Jews can no longer exist as German citizens or marry non-Jews." (Citation:?). From the point in time this posted picture quote references, Frank Buchman was perfectly willing to ignore the plight of Jews as he pursued his "quest for world peace."?He joined a large list of organizations, including the Catholic Church which would make accommodations with the Nazi party. ?
The hubris necessary to consider that an appeal to fascist butchers and invoking the name of god would somehow lead to world peace can hardly be ignored. Am I saying Buchman is to blame for all of this? Of course not. He¡¯s just one of many religious leaders and organizations which put the goal of stopping a yet-to-occur world war and their fortunes ahead of the already-occurring marginalization and oppression of Jews. His ¡°quest for world peace¡± should be placed firmly within this larger context. |

Special Event coming up on
#zoom
On June 5 and June 12th (both days), William Schaberg, author of the book "Writing the Big Book" will be speaking!?
Personally, I am not going to miss this for the world and maybe some of us can "meet" at this zoom event! I plan to make my name look like this: Thom R. 02-10-92 groups.io/g/AAHistoryLovers As a way to show that I am from here but also to let people know that AAHL exists here. I think it might be fun if anyone else wanted to join me by adding the address to their name as well?? Flyer is attached. I am truly excited about this and have the time blocked out for sure. Oh and I have created a new hashtag, #zoom, which, if you like, can be used to tag any events posted or talked about here that occur or occurred on the Zoom platform. Makes these messages easier to find later. If we use this hashtag, people can search for it and all of the messages with that tag will pop up. As we grow, I think that features like that will become more and more important. So let's start there? We have a few other hashtags so far as well, feel free to use them if you like and feel free to email me and suggest more. Thanks for letting me share! Best, Thom |
