Re: Moving forward from losses
开云体育CME Tools & CDCO tools seem to have pretty good stuff from what I've seen & prices are ok . Freight is what will turn a want to order into a canceled order with most vendors out , sometimes if ya spend so much shipping is free . Also a lot of vendors also have Ebay stores , so that could be a place to scour . There's always Amazon prime with the free shipping . Just make sure with Ebay & maybe Amazon that whatever ya order can be returned . animal On 12/24/24 8:38 AM, Eric Holub via

Moving forward from losses
I haven't made a lot with my 109.20630 in the last 20 years other than some few repair parts for my printing presses. Care-giving took me away in 2010, and then squatters looted the shop. Recently I've regained access, found the swine had stolen the Bison 3-jaw chuck I got from Home Shop Supply, and the ER-32 collet chuck set from joelr7052 on eBay in 2020. Now I'm looking for replacements. The Bison is 640+ now (135 when I got it) but the ER-32 isn't much more today. Any favorite suppliers now that Home Shop Supply is gone?
I am browsing Discount Machine Shop and BM Parts Tech (formerly My Machine Shop).

Re: New Member - Metric Gears
开云体育One of the chucks that were used for armatures was just a pretty
plain Jacobs chuck that threaded onto the spindle . Seems that
everyone has to have one .? A good 3-jaw is probably just as
accurite if not more .I'd rather have a collet chuck then the
Jacobs that threads on the spindle, but if a guy had one of those
Jacobs chucks he could probably sell it & get enough to buy a
good collet chuck & be much happier with his work .. ? Those
go for pretty darn crazy $$$ these days . There's also a Jacob
chuck for the tailstock but this one spins with the work but the
tang is solid in the tailstock . ??? ??? animal On 10/31/2022 1:46 PM, Adam Faris via

>?Could also use a photo of the original knurled nut on the backgear housing that locks the housing to the spyder. Sometimes I get lucky with finding details by looking at EBAY posting. ?For example shows the knurled knob in one of the photos. ?(I am not the seller and know nothing about the auction.) The power feed & headstock assembly drawing (attached) from the manual also shows 2 grooves on the shaft for what looks like a detent. ?(Mine has a simple nut & through bolt which I need to look at replacing.). I think you can find the manual in one of the zip files under Files. ?If not there, hobby-machinist also has uploads. ?The file name is "AA 109_20630 Manual 2.pdf". > I am missing the 48 tooth gear If you don't mind 3D printed gears, there's a STL folder with models for each gear under files.

New Member - Metric Gears
Just joined and recently finished rebuilding a 109 that is in good shape and quite complete. ?Added an armature chuck set to it, a new non-independent 4 jaw chuck, and an Aloris-like tool holder. ?Have a couple of spindle adapters I want to make yet to accommodate other chucks that I have. ?Was lookin for a metric gear chart that I saw referenced but could not find it. Can someone direct me please? ?Also I am missing the 48 tooth gear from the gear set if anyone has an extra one to sell. ?Could also use a photo of the original knurled nut on the backgear housing that locks the housing to the spyder. ?I made one as a replacement, but would like to see what the original looks like. ?Of all the photos I have seen of the lathe and of just the backgear itself, i have never seen this nut pictured. ?Thanks. ?

开云体育Jeff, ? I do not know Bryan nor know what make of lathe he has or had.? But you may be in the wrong Group.? The Atlas 3950 (and the almost identical Craftsman 101.21200) is the first model of the Atlas-built 6” MK 2 and is not normally discussed in this Group.? This group normally covers the machines made by AA (sometimes spoken as Double-A) which have Sears model numbers beginning with 109, not 101. ?You should probably be in [email protected]. ? Re: 109 serial number
开云体育Dave, ? If you are referring to the database that mainly consists of the various Atlas-built machines, the number string in the SER_NR field for the Atlas machines consists mainly of the serial numbers assigned by the Factory, unless the owner did not report it.? But on the AA built lathes, the number is only an arbitrary sequence number assigned in the order in which the machines were added or the order in which the appeared in the databases.? So there are no significance to the numbers. ? As to when your machine was made, then earliest appearance of any AA lathes in the Sears catalogs was I think around 1942 for the model 700 and 701’s.? At the end of WW2, Sears doesn’t appear to have published the Power Tools catalogs for about 3 years.? They published one in 1948 and every year afterwards for the next 20 or so years.? I don’t know what AA was doing through those years but would assume that your 109.20630 was made sometime in the late 1940’s.? But not in the late 1930’s. ? Robert Downs ? 开云体育Also, here is a great reference to get started -?If I recall, there are 109’s were offered with two different bed widths - (center to center of the V’s). Make sure the tailstock matches your bed! This info is somewhere on the above website. Doug

开云体育You can find parts for these lathes on EBAY. This seller has a pretty wide selection. Or you can search EBAY for individuals that have odds and ends. Doug

Re: 109 serial number
开云体育Thank you for the quick reply. I asked that question, because in the files section, there is a spreadsheet that looks like there are serial numbers? At any rate my lathe has no cast marks. Only the tag onthe end of the bed. Looking at that spreadsheet, can I surmise that mine is a 1938-1939 made? Mine is missing some parts. Are there sources of parts? Thanks again Dave ?
