New to group! Looking for a “0” MT (1/2” diameter) tailpiece ram. It’s the last thing that I need to get my lathe (109.60230) up and running. Been checking on Ebay, but, nothing has been posted, unless I want to buy another whole tailpiece again. Thanx for any help you folks can give me.

Metric Threading?
Has anyone used the metric threading chart in the files section? I am trying to set my lathe up for 1.75mm pitch and can't quite figure it out. I think that I need to put an idler gear in there, but I'm having trouble figuring it out. I know that there has got to be a simple solution, but my little brain can't seem to get it.
Thank you! |
Re: More Questions
开云体育Bill, ? I am pretty sure that the manual that you referred to was on Yahoo and therefore is on groups.io.? And it was and is also in Files on the Atlas-Craftsman group. ? There are also all of the drawings that Lionel Weightman did some 20 odd years ago.? And a few more things.? However, the drawing for converting one of the AA lathes to a 3/4”-16 spindle are not there. ? There are, or were, four total of the AA-built lathes.? We have fair or better copies of the Sears manuals on the first three.? The fourth one, which was roughly equivalent to either the Atlas 618 or the Craftsman 101.07301 (I do not know what kind of spindle bearings it had), I have only ever seen one early photo of.? AFAIK, no more information on it has turned up. ? Robert Downs ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Bill Williams

I got the “manual” with one of my AA-109 lathes and I think that I sent a copy to Lathes UK site. It is a 3 page (both sides) trichtype and pretty basic! But the information and parts list are there. If you cannot find this document then I will (1) try to find it and, (2) try to figure out how to scan and attach it to an E-Mail to this forum. Frankly the spindle is rather weak and I have considered trying to fabricate an upgraded spindle and installing it in a reworked spare headstock. ?Bill in Boulder ? Sent from for Windows 10 ? From: HOWARD CROSSLEN ? First, thank you Penn and Wishbone. Penn stuck with me until I realized the error of my thinking about how the gears and drive worked. It doesn't appear?that my shaft is bent, a good thing, nor do the bushings appear to be worn. My next question is, the info keeps mentioning a face plate. I don't seem to have one. I have 2 chucks, a 3-jaw and a 4-jaw and both just screw onto the shaft. Do I need a face plate? Then one more question--what is the smallest diameter of the step pulley that came with these? The only one I have starts out pretty big, compared to the ones I see in photos. Oh, and I'm still looking for a maintenance/repair manual. I've looked through all the files shown and find lots of good information but no real manual for assembly, maintenance and repair. Was one ever made? ? |
Re: More Questions

Thanks for relieving my mind about that face plate. To be honest, at this point I have no idea whether I'll even end up having any use for this lathe. I figured since I have it, I ought to at least get it all in one piece and see whether it appeals to me. I'm
in a getting-rid-of mode, somewhat, although my wife says she thinks I have one of every tool known to man. I don't tell her about the duplicates. But my shop area is very cramped so another benchtop thing is going to have to prove itself to me.
Yes, I did mean the motor pulley. But I notice the gear that attaches with a set screw, A-3221, Spindle gear I believe, does not seem to sit in line with the other gears in that train; I can move it out to where it does, but then the shaft does not come flush
with the face of the gear. Which matters--gear alignment or shaft insertion, or is there something wrong that it doesn't align right?

Howard,?
You only need a face plate if you want to do turning between centers or for fastening odd shaped work to the lathe.? The 3 and 4 jaw chucks will handle most of your needs. Are you asking about the motor pulley.? In the group files section, there is a folder called manuals.? In there is a file called "Operating Instructions and Parts List for Craftsman Lathe " it has an exploded view diagram, parts list, and basic adjustments. That is about the only specific manual for these lathes. For repair and maintenance you'll have to find a general lathe manual. The internet has many.? Penn? |
