Dear A1CLUB members,
On this coming SKSA - Straight Key Sprint Asia, JO1ZZZ/1, A1CLUB Club Station will get on the air. Only 50W (JA mobile station's limit) is allowed to this club station so I wonder if DX members can hear JO1ZZZ on the air. I'll announce its QRV FREQs on SKCC SkedPage and A1CLUB A1-Chat. Re: Welcome to the A1CLUB
TNK, Hiro san. Let me introduce myself.
I started in ham radio in 1955 as W1ETH. I was living in the Boston area where I attended college and medical school. While in college I was station manager of our club station, W1AF. I became interested in chasing DX when in about 1971, I worked a JA phone and heard his dog bark! New to DX, I was thrilled to imagine the possibility of making new friends overseas. In those days we had real DX QSOs, not the quick 599 - TU - 73 exchange that is so common today. My DXCC totals grew on both CW and SSB, so that now I am on the DXCC Honor Roll. I changed my call to W1PR (my initials) when I moved to Santa Barbara, California, in 1994.? My XYL is Japanese so I have traveled to Japan many times. I obtained my Japanese license JE1LRT in 2006. I was happy to meet JJ1FXF, JE1TRV, J R2IUB, and JS2AHG during my recent visit. We are all members of SKCC and had worked one another in SKCC events. It was at that meeting that I was introduced to the A1Club which I am happy to join. I especially enjoy contesting on all modes, and often use my contest call NN6DX. Although the time difference between JA and US West Coast will make it difficult to participate in some A1Club activities, I hope to work many members. Wishing you good dx de Paul W1PR / JE1LRT / NN6DX |
Welcome to the A1CLUB

Re: VP9KF - greyline to JA
2023-04-24. No hope. Kp = 8. Not a single signal on ANY band. Starting to recover, Kp = 6.67, but not gg to be gud fer quite a few hours yet. Will try tomorrow starting 08:00z on 14.026 or so. Polar forecasts still not gud then for the path we need, but will try.

Re: VP9KF - greyline to JA
Sunday - MUF was very low at 12.8 MHz. Called CQ for nearly 30 minutes. Worked a few weak EUs.
Then, pop, pow, path opened for 115 QSOs to JA for a short window of nearly 30 minutes, centred on 09:00z. Signals were quite good, no flutter even though we were breaking all the propagation rules! Little contest activity if any today, so less QRM. Today the Wordpress blog won't take my log file. Why did it work for only one day? I'm sorry. Tried FTP some more but no luck getting that to connect properly. Most embarrassing. I will try later. Cannot change any of my own server data :-( 73, Paul VP9KF, member 1745. |
Re: VP9KF - greyline to JA
The weekend QRM was hiding my signal in JA today and I had QRM in my rx window 1-5 kHz up fm tx freq.
Started window at 0805z and it finished at 0905z. MUF was 14.4 MHz, very very close to 14.026! Sri, only 125 stns wkd this morning because of the weekend QRM. Will try agn tmrw around same time. I CQ until I hear the window open and then go split. 73, Paul VP9KF. |
Re: VP9KF - greyline to JA
Doing better hr after nasty illness. Wkd 154 JAs yesterday and 252 JAs today (in an hour). Will be back tmrw morning at 08:00z onwards on close to 14.026 MHz. This is very close to the theoretical MUF but I'm sure this is boosted by the greyline. The band is open to EU too, but the JA signals overwhelm me hearing them. There are also VKs and HLs calling. Although HLs are a bad sign as it normally means the path is closing to JA within a few minutes. However I did work one 30 minutes from the end of the window today, which was unusual. The window has been almost exactly 0815z to 0915z each day and opens and closes in about 20 seconds! I'll call CQ over and over, then the 1st JA will call. 20 seconds later there'll be a hundred or more calling :-)
Thanks everybody for the calls. I haven't fixed my SFTP issue, so logs are unfortunately not being updated on vp9kf.com. It appears to be a new corporate router/switch hr in Bermuda and I don't want to break my existing security certificates, etc. in trying to fix it any more than I tried so far. I can post news at . I'll see if I can get the logs on there in some way. Paul. VP9KF. |
