I will be on air as VP9KF from 14th to 28th April, 2025, CW only. I have worked many members before and look forward to new contacts. Please bear in mind that the only other active CW operator (outside contests) was VP9KD who became a silent key a couple of weeks ago. I will be trying to fit in with the DXpeditions to VP2V and Galapagos, which should make things interesting.... See http://vp9kf.com for times and freqs, etc. 73, Paul VP9KF P.S. I sent info to DXWorld but it wasn't published!

N0HFF's book: The Art and Skill of Radio Telegraphy (2002); TXT-File for conversion to Morse Code audio
7
Hello, Major parts of the book "The Art and Skill of Radio Telegraphy" by William G Pierpont, N0HFF (2002), have been considerably edited (first by Chuck, W5UXH, then by myself) in a way that, when converted to Morse Code audio by ebook2CW or a similar tool, the audio file provides a pleasant flow of Morse Code. Just like in a real–world conversational QSO. The according UTF-8 encoded txt–file is available as archive N0HFF-ASRT-2002-edited-UTF-8.zip: https://www.qsl.net/df7tv/download/N0HFF-ASRT-2002-edited-UTF-8.zip Conversion tool: https://fkurz.net/ham/ebook2cw.html I would recommend to convert the text file to Morse code audio without additional word spaces, Farnsworth etc. To progress in CW, just convert it at a speed at which you are challenged, but not frustrated, when listening. For playback of the audio file, an audio player saving the playback state (currently played track and position) when closing and resuming on next start–up is advantageous. [QSP] Early 20th century historic Marconi transatlantic radio telegaph site on the Newfoundland Coast needs your vote
Following is the QSP INFO from CWops mailing-list. // HIRO, JJ1FXF -- This is a time-sensitive issue. Two 111-foot towers in Battle Harbour, Newfoundland are historic towers of the Marconi Radio Company. Originally wood, they burned in a 1922 fire and were replaced by steel towers in 1930. An organization called the Battle Harbor Historic Trust is trying to repair and restore these towers. They are in a competition to receive $50,000 from the Canadian Government to restore the towers to perfect condition. The Competition requires votes. You must vote to save the towers during the next 14 days. You can vote once a day, and use an email addresses from anywhere in the world. Why is this important to ham radio? Peter Bull, the director of the trust to save the towers, is 100% aboard with ham radio. There is a rental place on Battle Harbour, where a station could be located. That station could be set up for remote operation (There is StarLink and 5G Cellular service there). It is a fabulous place for a mini DXPedition! The towers are in GN20. image.png There is huge opportunity for Amateur Radio with these towers: HF/VHF/ETC. Imagine the signal on the low bands? image.png This is all for naught unless we VOTE to save the towers. Anyone in the world can vote! It costs you just a second to post a VOTE! Again, you can vote every day for the next 14 days and multiple email addresses are ok. Here's a some important links: VOTE for the project once a day for the next 12 days https://nextgreatsave.nationaltrustcanada.ca/2025/entry/85 ONLY 12 Days to Vote! This is the biggest operating event of the year in Poland with typically over 1000 SP stations on the air on both CW and SSB. For some, it is a competitive event, for others it is a chance to make a QSO with old friends. And for others yet, it is their only contest experience of the year and an opportunity to be seen and heard and to have fun. The success of this contest depends on the participation of DX stations like you, whether you are a veteran contester or just enjoy making casual contacts and giving SP stations an opportunity to work DX. It does not matter how much time you can spend and how many QSO’s you can make, we would like to see you in our logs! Please visit https://spdxcontest.pzk.org.pl where you can see the current rules and upload your log after the contest. Please note that logs can no longer be submitted via email. Note the log analysis functionality that provides some useful information. Just click on your (or any other) call sign in the scores tab. You may test this in 2023, 2024 and other contest archives. Along with the results, certificates of participation and top scoring certificates by category, country and continent will be available for download. We also have a long list of plaques which have been sponsored by individuals and groups which you can see on the web page. Finally, you can qualify for various levels of the POLSKA Award for working the 16 provinces (województwa) of Poland. We hope we have made this contest interesting and exciting for you and we look forward to seeing you in the event! 2025 SP DX Contest Committee Polish Amateur Radio Union, SP DX Club

VarAC
5
Does anyone play with "VarAC", a rather new digital mode? https://www.varac-hamradio.com/ I'm not much interested in the award-hunting digital modes, but I'm interested in the VarAC if it's a good tool for self-spotting. VarAC has the broadcast mode and I can announce my QRG or even invite to QSY CW. (So far, no luck, though. hi) Yeah, SKCC's SkedPage and other Internet services are doing such QRG, but I'm interested in covering all on the air only. Anyway, those who cannot reach me on the air by CW, let us try the VarAC. So we can check our connectivity by the SNR. Email me if you are interested in our SKED. // HIRO, JJ1FXF

First QSO's in the pocket!
4
I got my first QSO'd made from the campsite in Kamiyama, Tokushima pref. I don't know if there were A1 club members among them. There was someone who, if I understood correctly, I was his third QSO. The location isn't that great for DX as it is in between mountains, so it was all NVIS, but that didn't make it less fun ? Oh, at one moment I messed up my new callsign and sent JJ1 ? 73, Martin - JL1EFV/5
