Re: Need help on wabun

To: Thomas-san,

No problem. it's my pleasure.;)

My answer:
In my opinions...

I used ¤Ò¤é¤¬¤Ê not ¥«¥¿¥«¥Ê, is this OK?
Both is OK in daily use.
However, I seems that many people use katakana.

The reason for this,
when listening Wabun code and writing down these , Katakana(¥«¥¿¥«¥Ê) is
easier and faster than Hiragana(¤Ò¤é¤Ê¤¬).
For example,
"¤¢/a" has three strokes, but "¥¢/a" has two.
And the length of the strokes in the character "¥¢" is also shorter than "¤¢".
The same thing is for "¤ì/re". "¤ì/re" is easier and faster to write "¥ì/re".

Hiragana ¤·¤ã (sha) is wabun --.-. .-- ¤·¤ä (no small ¤ä)
Yes, we do not use small wabun character in Wabun morse.

single hiragana ¤Ñ (pa) is two letters in wabun -... ..--. that would output two unicode character ¤Ï and ©blike so ¤Ï©b.
Yes, that's right.
By combining codes, we don't need to remember several new codes.
If we are using one unicode character
Ex;
¤Ï¡¢¤Ò¡¢¤Õ¡¢¤Ø¡¢¤Û¡¢¤Ñ¡¢¤Ô¡¢¤×¡¢¤Ú¡¢¤Ý¡¢¤Ð¡¢¤Ó¡¢¤Ö¡¢¤Ù¡¢¤Ü => we need 15 codes.
Now:
¤Ï¡¢¤Ò¡¢¤Õ¡¢¤Ø¡¢¤Û¡¢©b¡¢©a => only 7 codes. and "©b" and "©a" can be combined with
other letters.

used international morse for numbers 0,1,..,9, are they used?
Yes, we use them.
However, some notations in the professional license examination use
abbreviations. Especially when sending and receiving the "TIME" item
of a telegram.
And some people prefer to use the abbreviations. For amateur radio
QSO, both is fine/OK.
Abbreviations of numbers for wabun.
{".-", u8"Ò»"},
{"..-", u8"¶þ"},
{"...-", u8"Èý"},
{"....-", u8"ËÄ"},
{".....", u8"Îå"},
{"-....", u8"Áù"},
{"-...", u8"Æß"},
{"-..", u8"°Ë"},
{"-.", u8"¾Å"},
{"-.", u8"£°"},
4, 5 and 6 are same of full codes.

Any prosigns or other characters commonly in use and missing?
It's a minor thing.....
1) According to Japanese regulations, ".-.-.." means Paragraph End. It is ¡±¡¹".
Of course, in a QSO, both have the same meaning and no problem.
{".-.-..", u8"¡¹"},
2) "...-." has two meanings, "End of Wabun" and "Correction" (it's
same of <HH> "........" in international code.)
We don't generally use <HH> in Wabun QSO.
Therefore, if someone uses <SN> to correct a international QSO, we can
understand that she/he is able to communicate in Wabun Morse.

Others:
{".-..-", u8"¤ð"} and {".--..", u8"¤ñ"} are still exist in Japanese
regulations, but these are not used on a daily basis in Japan today.

If you have any other questions, feel free to let me know.

And,
Be careful of "guerrilla thunderstorm" = "sudden downpour" in Japan,
especially in metropolitan areas is so.
I hope your antenna is set up successfully.
GL!

Need help on wabun

Hi A1Club,
?
just arriving in Japan with jet lag and not yet an antenna up, I used my morse practice app:
?
Just a simple small command line program written in C to practice sending. Key gets connected by Arduino emulating a USB Midi device. A simple decoder is showing the output of your keying in international morse.
You can think of as a V-Band adapter, but optimized for low latency and the electronic keying done directly in the (close to) realtime audio thread.
?
Just for the fun as I could not sleep I added wabun support, even I can't use wabun myself.
As I might have messed it up I put it behind a compile time switch that can be activated in CMakeLists.TXT: target_compile_definitions(cmorse PUBLIC -DWABUN)
The (wabun) table used by the decoder can be found in header file morse.h

Subject: [IntlCWCouncil] Morse Code key types proposed to be included in ADIF logging programs

?

I am relaying this message from G3ZOD of FISTS UK? who feels CW clubs should be aware of this proposal now that it is heading towards its final approval:

Amateur radio programs such as electronic logbooks and services such as Club Log exchange QSO information using a standard format known as ADIF (Amateur Data Interchange Format).? Currently this covers a wide range of QSO items such as call, name, QTH, mode, band, POTA, SOTA.? Reasons to do this may be to transfer QSOs from one logbook program to another or upload QSOs to services such as Club Log and LoTW.

While many typical QSO items are included, currently this does not include the type of Morse key used by either a QSO¡¯s sending station or the contacted station.? Adding Morse key information to ADIF will allow possibilities such as transferring Morse key information between logbook programs and applying for awards or submitting contest logs that require use of specific types of Morse key.

Tom VA2NW has proposed the addition of QSO items to ADIF that describe the type of Morse key and allow further information to be recorded about it (the technical details can be viewed at??).? While this has not yet been approved, I thought it would be helpful for CW clubs to be aware of this before the changes become final.

Addition of Morse key type and description items to logbook programs and other services is a decision for the individual program authors.? However, once the ADIF changes have been approved, Morse operators will have the opportunity to ask their logbook program authors to include these features.

RandomGram #18 @23:00Z-25:00Z on July 19

Dear A1CLUB members,

Japan has been boiling and having heavy rains recently. The baking summer is just around the corner.

RandomGram #18 will be held on July 19th from 23:00Z to 25:00Z.

/g/RandomGram/message/357

This time, I and some JA stations will gather around 7.030MHz(note 7.030 is for QRP only) from 23:00Z to exchange the Code Groups of TX List which you request in advance of the event.

RandomGram is fun to exchange the Code Groups, also to watch other's RG QSOs to copy their Code Groups that you can earn your RX points.

Please add your points to A1CLUB team of RG.
