Pantelleria Isl. AF-018

Hello all:
On the occasion of a QSY to attend to some commitments on the island of Pantelleria (IH9, African Italy, CQz 33, ITUz 28, IOTA AF-018) together with some family members, IT9BLB/IH9 and IT9VDQ/IH9 will do their best to be active during the next CQ WPX CW. The very limited space between luggage and the short stay time will allow at most a pair of barefoot SOSBs, with minimalist setups. In any case, the goal is simply to be able to be on-air, in some way and for as much free time as is available.

Re: UV-K5 CW Mod

Dear A1CLUB members,

Finally I’ve got my UV-K5(8) last Friday. :)

It was at only JPY2,500, about US$16, with a charger of JA plug type and a 2m/430 helical antenna.

I spent almost this weekend for the new gadget because the HF CONDX was rotten.

Installed the egzumer firmware and CHIRP software.

I cannot believe this 18-1300MHz FM/AM/USB receiver is only at 2.5K yen.

I’ll play this RX with the egzumer firmware for a while and then try other firmwares and later hardware mod.

The firmware installation is very easy as clicking URL on Chrome browser. (no installer, really installing from browser)

I already ordered a SMA-BNC connector and a 10cm->39cm rod antenna.

I know I like those gadgets. hihi

The 23rd A1CLUB QSO PARTY

Dear A1CLUB members,

The 23rd A1CLUB QSO PARTY - A1PTY has been started from May 1st and will go on until May 31st.

The A1PTY is to encourage more QSOs on the air and the theme telegraph is a key to make the QSO as the A1PTY QSO.

This time, the theme is "LIKE".

While in your QSO, you send a telegraph that tells what you "LIKE" such as "I LIKE STRAIGHT KEYS".

If you have sent it!, the QSO is counted as the A1PTY completed, even though your opponent OP hasn't sent his/her "LIKE".

And the A1PTY participation prize (PDF) will be awarded if you'll have the A1PTY QSOs on 10 days in May.

So please don't be surprised if some of A1CLUB members suddenly send you some "LIKE". It is a part of A1PTY QSO. hi

And if you'd like to submit the results of your A1PTY QSOs, send me your ADIF file to me.

Let's enjoy the A1PTY!

Does anyone know about the mod of UV-K5(8) or UV-K6 for CW use such as A1A or F2A TX/RX, sidetone, keyer for paddles, decoder and so on?

UV-K5(8) and UV-K6 are the Chinese hand-held V/UHF transceiver at drastically low pricing.

Its software mod has been popular since last year but lately I found a hardware mod replacing some circuits with the additional small PCB.

Re: A1C OAM お試しキー局 / WWR ANT

Thomas-san,

Thanks for applying to the Online KONSHIN-KAI of APR 28, 10:00Z.

As far as I understand about WWR antenna, it is an antenna of capacitive junctions, between split rods, and between RF feeding alligator clip and the bottom of the rod.

So I suppose you can feed RF directly to the rod without conductive aluminum tape, but the rubber grip of rod or thickly painted area are not suitable for capacitive connection via big alligator clip.

"HAM Radio" in Friedrichshafen seems an exhibition in Germany from June 28 to 30 this year.

Sounds interesting!

Please come to the Online KONSHIN-KAI in autumn and speak how the "HAM Radio" would be.

Re: A1C OAM お試しキー局 / WWR ANT

HI Hiro-san,
thanks so much for your reply. I found JJ1XTG's videos. Seems Sachi-san doing a lot to promote CW for young people in? KJ-CWclub?
I think I have met Sacho-san last year on Tokyo Ham fair briefly in front of the A1CLUB booth?
Waiting for Atsu-san's announcement in Japanese mail list... :-)?

Now planning "HAM Radio" in Friedrichshafen, wonder DX or Japanese A1Club Member planning to come to Friedrichshafen?

As of WWR antenna: I use AH-705 on 5m whip antennas (or just bare long wire tuned) as I have lot of family QRM and need to be fast setting up and taking down the station. As in WWR ANT the complete carbon fishing rod in conducting and need some non conducting stand?

Re: CW Greetings

Thanks, Yannis-san.

It seems that there are no CW abbreviations for Ef-kha-ri-sto and Ka-li-ni-kta but you use TNX and GN.

So I just added full spellings of KLM and KLS on my sheet.

Now attach the PDF because PDF is smaller than Excel.

Re: CW Greetings

Good morning Hiro-san

?I write you to complete xl file with Greek meannings

KLM(GM) = Ka-li-me-ra

KLS(GA,GE) = ka-li-spe-ra,

TNX = Ef-kha-ri-sto

GN = Ka-li-ni-kta

Best regards, 73

I added Chinese with IZUMI-chan's advice. Also revised Spanish with abbreviations.

More abbreviations and better expressions on CW are very much appreciated!

Re: CW Greetings

Hi Hiro San,

In Spanish we have several words to greetings depending on the time of day, like in english.
?
  • We say 'Hola' as 'Hello'? in a general maner during all day, but in CW we prefrer send the word 'SALUDOS' abbreviated as (SLDS).
  • In the morning (GM) we say 'BUENOS DIAS', abbreviated as (BDS).
  • In the afternoon (GA) and evening (GE), we don't diferenciate the time between the noon and the dusk, we say 'BUENAS TARDES', abreviated as (BTS).
  • In the night we say 'BUENAS NOCHES', abbreviated as (BNS).
  • 'GRACIAS' is abbreviated as (GRS).
  • And at the end of QSO 'ADIOS' is abbreviated as (ADS), but we can use too 'HASTA LUEGO' abbreviated (HL) or 'HASTA MA?ANA' abbreviated (HM), even when yhou know you will not contacat more later nor tomorrow.

I hope this hepls you.? Thanks you for your initiative!

Re: CW Greetings

GE Hiro-san,
?Sorry for late reply, of course there are some Chinese expressions for greetings
?Here I have a list
?Hello/Hi: ZAOAN(早安)/ZAOSHANGHAO(早上好) (Used for morning, GM)
????????????? WUAN(午安)/XIAWUHAO(下午好) (Used for afternoon, GA)
????????????? WANHAO(晚好)/WANSHANGHAO(晚上好) (Used for evening, GE)
????????????? NINHAO(您好)/NIHAO(你好) (Used for anytime, HI, what's more, NINHAO is more used for formal occasion, more official, like Nice to meet you or Hello in English. NIHAO is public used just like Hi in English)
?Thank you: XIEXIE(谢谢)/GANXIE(感谢)
?Goodbye: ZAIJIAN(再见)/BAIBAI(拜拜, much used in colloquial speech)/ZAIHUI(再会, HPE CU AGN, also can be used for BV/BY5 station who can also speak Hakka)
?I think that's enough for us to express greetings in local language

I have a #WWR antenna mounted on my roof using an AH-730 tuner. I have run entire contests just using this carbon fiber fishing rod. I was able to make contacts as far as the east coast of the USA and the UK running 100 watts. It is certainly a compromise antenna, but it does work. I mostly use it for 160m and 80m during the weekly AWT contest. I have not taken my #WWR antenna portable, but there are several YouTube videos of people doing just that.
