Brian: In your recently posted pic of your upper door latch release, the pic also shows your 26¡± x 30# door-side A-sidewall gas spring. Since the pic isn¡¯t detailed, I assume the upper and lower ball brackets are mounted with pass-through machine screws. The lower bracket appears to be mounted to the door partition. Is the upper bracket mounted to the door edge extrusion with the machine screws passing through the upper A-sidewall to the outside? Did you find that 30# is sufficient to assist with the raising of the door side A-sidewall, without too much impediment to folding? Thanks, Dave

Door Lock Failure

The dead bolt lock on our Ranger 12 failed today, locking us out. The key was stuck halfway between to open and locked positions, and would not turn. We were considering looking for someone small enough to crawl through a cargo door. The solution turned out to be spraying some lubricant into the key slot. I suspect one of the tumblers in the lock was just stuck. It would probably be a good idea to periodically spray some silicon lubricant into the lock. Either that, or be sure to bring along a small person. Scott Ellington

Shore power is fine. Battery charged up. Battery connected correctly. Inline battery fuse id good. NO DC power topower center. Is there an easy answer?

Charging with a Honda 2000i generator

I have to boondock for two nights on our next trip. I tested my fridge on gas, and with 2 low wattage computer fans running full time. I only got 32 hours before it dropped slightly below 12 volts. So I'll need to use my generator to charge up. I'm wondering whether I should get the Honda charge cable, or use my stand alone Schumacher charger. I don't want to run the generator any more than necessary since the campground will be full. I'm also considering purchasing the propane conversion kit to make it more convenient to use anywhere. Loss of DC Power

[ I'm reposting this, as it will never get seen at the bottom of 14 comments in the similar topic I originally chose.] I'm reopening this topic because I have the same issue. Last camping trip last Fall I discovered I had no DC power, though it was fine previously. As things go, I put off 'running it to ground', so to speak, until things warmed up this spring. Now I'm 10 days away from an important trip (!). I have a WFCO 8725 converter, and have rewired the rat's nest with terminal strips, so everything is easy to check. All fuses are good, including at the battery. I've been trying to maintain the battery by charging a day or two each month, but you know how that goes; a day becomes a week, then a month... When I first checked, the battery was providing an even 13.5vdc, and I found 13.5v on all four circuits -- but when I added a load, power went to zero. A day later, I'm now getting 20vdc (!) at the battery , and 10v at the circuits. Still, nothing works, even the LED lights. Should I assume the (relatively recent) battery is toast? Hi, Campers -- I'm looking for reviews of Capt. Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure, particulary for its use on Aliner's OEM caulk/sealant. Messages here provided nothing specific, and locating leaks has proven impossible, but I'm willing to try a $25 gambit on it. Pre-emptively replacing all seals is to be avoided at all costs! Has anybody on this list had success with it? Is it applied just to caulked edges, or must the entire caulked area be coated? Mppt solar controller

For anybody that has upgraded their solar controller from a PWM type to an MPPT type, did you doing any testing comparing the two? I just got a Lensun MPPT controller, and compared it to my old PWM controller, and was sort of surprised by the results. The PWM controller consistently pulled 5.15 amps from the panel, and output 5.15 amps to the battery. The MPPT controller pulled 4.85 amps from the panel, and output 5.80 amps to the battery. The numbers from the MPPT controller also jumped around by about .2 amps, so those numbers are the most typical values. I was not expecting the MPPT controller to pull in fewer amps than the PWM. I'm wondering if my controller is pulling and outputting fewer amps than other brands.

Caulking

I am sorry to ask a stupid question, but I am a new Aliner owner. I purchased a used 2019 Classic and have discovered a small leak. I was told it needs to be re-caulked around the skylights. My question is does all of the old caulk have to be removed first or do you just re-caulk over it.? Is silicone caulk the best thing to use? Are there other areas that need to be caulked? I do not know what the previous owner did as far as maintenance.

Broken bumper welds
I posted a few weeks ago regarding my bumper weld breaking and the bumper being a bit flimsy - I don't even off road Etc.... Long story short went and had the bumper welded & reinforced today (added 1/4 gussets to the center connection to the bumper and welded the attachment in a manner that seems a lot beefier than the original welds). Seems like a very good job to me, $100 for about an hour of work. If anyone is in the Las Vegas area I recommend Biester welding. Below are some pics before & after

Summary for switching to Lithium Ion Battery

Based on all your input, the information I received from WFCO and Renogy, and from what I was able to glean from the internet, I will summarize what I have done and will do to convert my 4 pin connector to a seven pin and enable the installation of a liPo4 battery in my Aliner. Hopefully, this might benefit others while keeping in mind there are other ways of accomplishing the same thing. First, I have installed a 10 gauge 2 wire cable that runs from the engine compartment to the back of my tow vehicle. I purchased this cable from eTrailer because the wires are not molded in the cable making them easy to separate much like regular Romex. One wire is connected to the TV battery by way of a 30 amp circuit breaker. This hot wire will also have a relay to shut it off when the engine of the TV is not operating. The relay will be switched by the use of an add-a-circuit fuse tap from the fuse box. The other 10 gauge wire is connected to the wiring harness for the brake controller. Both 10 gauge wires in the cable are run through the inside of the tow vehicle to the rear. There, they are connected to the wiring harness for the Bargman connector along with the 4 pin wires and another wire for backup lights. Inside the Aliner, I will install a 15 amp DC-DC charger by Victron. A 15 amp charger should not overload the wires or cause excessive heat, although will take a little longer to charge the battery than a 20 amp would. This setup should allow for the use of the Aliner factory installed Bargman cable along with regular connectors without the need for any special connectors or wiring. As for AC charging of the li ion battery, I will leave the factory installed WFCO

Lithium ion phosphate battery

Hi all. I was thinking about swapping out my AGM battery in my Aliner Classic for a lithium one. The biggest concern I have is the possibility of burning out the alternator in my tow vehicle if the li ion is discharged when towing. I have read that a DC-DC charger would solve this potential problem, but was wondering if anyone has installed a single 100 ah li ion battery without any other devices. And if they did, were there any problems. Thanks Bob

Need Advice Please!!

Need advice please... a woman is interested in purchasing my Scout Lite but has never towed anything before. She asked if we could hitch it up to my vehicle and take it for a short ride and she then wants to drive my SUV with the camper (and me still in the car) for a few minutes to see what it's like. I am not entirely comfortable with the idea for a few of my own reasons but wanted to see if anyone else had done this before? As a point of information, I met her today for her to look at it. She is a retired woman who lives in my city and is very interested. I don't have any reason to think that my safety would be in jeopardy so I am not looking for advice on that subject, just on whether or not you would do this for a potential buyer or not and why. Mounting spare on underside of tongue

Greetings all Did a couple of long trips with the aliner this year. In January went around Arizona & a couple of stops in New Mexico. Arizona roads are pretty rough (I'm talking about the interstates) - the weld broke to the bumper in the middle, removed the spare put it in the back of the truck for the remainder of the trip - so no issues. My question is has anyone mounted the spare underneath the tongue and what issues did you experience if any? I have a 10' scout - no propane up front, a bike rack in it's place (45lbs bike rack & bike) and I have a lithium battery on the tongue only about 16lbs. So I don't think weight is an issue. After looking at the way that bumper is put on, I recommend anyone with the spare on the back get your bumper reinforced. Happy camping Dan S

awning for 2005 Aliner dl - can anyone help solve the mystery of putting it up?

Hello folks! I am wondering if anyone has experience with this awning. It has a big 'Aliner' tag/label that would be front and center when the awning is up but we can't find any pictures or videos of it that actually match. We have the original owner's manual and it doesn't match the awning in the manual at all. it is more similar to the screen room in the manual and it has zippers as though it used to have screen or wall panels but we don't have those. however it is not exactly the same as the roof of the screen room shown in the manual The image of the long grey bag is what you can attach permanently for travel to the door side, upper most edge of the roof panel. You unzip the bag and leave it on the roof/above the awning. 2 metal frame pieces attched to the awning in the bag. (the poles are completely seperate/different from these metal frame pieces). One metal frame piece attaches to the top most roof panel with the metal cleats you can see when Aframe is folded down. it sits on the side with the door running from the door side apex to the door side front corner. The bag zips around all of this for travelling. The bag unzips and stays on the top of that roof panel, along that roof edge, when the Aframe and awning are up. The second mteal bar would fold out and attach along the second panel edge on the door side (apex to back corner), but only when the frame is up and awning out. My pencil sketch is about the dimensions of it all and it seems like it should be fairly simple to put up a more or less rectangle with a fold in the middle at the top of the Aframe/along the roof line. We do understand to attach the two metal bars along the edges of the roof before you put the roof up fully part. But then once we get the roof up ... the simple logic of a mostly rectangle is lost and there is too much material to figure out where it and the different poles go. Any suggestions, or especially if someone has seen and/or used an awning like this would be great

Aliner wind bar weakness
I made the mistake of using the door side wind bar on my ¡®22 Classic as a mounting point for a small triangular canopy. The wind bar mount pulled out of the roof when it got windy. The top of the bar has a pivot joint with a 1/2¡± bolt that threads into a 3/8¡± thick plate. Very secure looking. The problem is that plate is secured by 4 sheet metal screws to the 1/16¡± thick roof frame. The screws pulled out of the frame. I replaced the screws with 3/16¡± diameter stainless pop rivets. They should be much stronger than the sheet metal screws. Aliner uses pop rivets all over the camper, why would they not use them here? I plan to change out the other side when I move the trailer out of its storage spot. JoeS
