7 plug to 4 plug electrical connections

Hello, I have an old A-liner with a 7 plugs connector, but my TV only has the flat 4 connector.
My A-liner doesn't have electric brakes, and I don't use its battery, so I thought that I could just avoid using those cables, and connect four from the 7 plug to a flat plug.
It doesn't work.
If I simply connect the white, brown, yellow and green cables in the same order than my TV, the trailer lights just light up in seemingly random ways.
Does anybody know how to connect my 7 plug to a 4 flat plug without having to re-wire the whole trailer?
Thanks
Diego

They sell adapters to go from 7 to 4 & vice versa,

Miady 4-Way Flat to 7-Way Round Blade Trailer Adapter Wiring Plug Connector with Mounting Bracket

If it doesn't work correctly all you need to rewire is the adapter, not the whole trailer.

Happy camping

You can by an adapter from a trailer supply store but I'm not sure that safe. I know because the dealer who sold me mine used an adapter to teach me how to back up. Once I knew I could do it and agreed to buy it, he installed the correct one.
On mine I had to have the brake control installed in my car . They are mandatory in NYS. I wouldn't want to not have coming down some of the hills I've been on.

I fully agree. My understanding is the 4 to 7 adapter does not activate the trailer brakes without an controller.

But she said her trailer does not have electric brakes so the 4 to 7 adapter will make all the circuits she DOES have work just fine. Only the battery charging and brake circuits will be inactive. Her lighting will work just fine - tail, turn and brake lights.?

Your understanding is not correct, sorry. You do need a brake controller to activate the brakes, but you also need a wired 7 pin Bargman plug to provide the extra blue wire that activated the electric brakes. A 4 to 7 pin adapter will not allow for brakes, charging the camper battery from the TV, or back up lights.?

Dave?

......?

My understanding is the 4 to 7 adapter does not activate the trailer brakes without an controller.

I think you misunderstood, you seemed to be mistaken - per the original post, the trailer does not have brakes installed. So having a 7 way or controller isn't going to do anything.

Not all states require trailer brakes or no brakes under a certain weight.

I wanted to use my tow vehicle (2004 Honda Element) with a small utility trailer as well.? At Wally World they have an adapter for about $28.? It is a 7 prong female that the 4 prong plugs in from the back.? The you can unplug the 4 prong and use it with a utility trailer.
I have purchased an electric brake controller, but not installed.? With just the 4 into 7 adapter all the trailer lights work great.? Don"t rewire your trailer, it doesn't need it and neither do you. The 4 into 7 adapter is an investment you can build on.

Dan :

Read it again, my friend.? The OP clearly states that he expects his electric brakes to work with his 4/7 adapter once he installs a controller.

My statement is correct. A 7 pin Bargman plug is required for elective brakes. Any state requirements are irrelevant to this discussion.

Even with a brake?controller a 4 to 7 pin adaptor will never activate?brakes if you have them on your trailer. You must have a 7 to 7 with a brake controller?to activate brakes.?
