It seems that mine isn't priming too. Each time I pulled it out, cleaned the strainer and reinstalled, it worked again. The debris in the strainer didn't seem enough to stop it from working. I never thought of shaking the water lines.

You probably should remove the water pump and take apart the pump head. ?I had a sliver of plastic in mine and it was real hard to get it to prime. ?The pump would run and run to no effect, until I reached into that compartment and shook the water lines.
