Have you tried removing the pump? ?Mine is held down with four screws. ?For me that would be easy compared to removing the tank-- that would be a beast of a job. ?Take the pump out and see if that strainer comes off. ?The pump has a non obvious little squeeze jobbie on it that makes disconnecting it easy once you know how. ?Maybe that would make the removal easier.

The filter is more of a fine mesh strainer. Its located on the input side of the pump which must be the suction side. Its integrated with the pump housing. I don't think its possible to move the strainer on this pump.
The failure mode is always no water pumped. No air issues. So far, once the pump is out,? I've only removed the strainer bowl and cleaned it.? I wish I could get the strainer bowl off without removing the tank and pump. I just can't get my hand in there to twist it off.
I thought about moving the tank, there is room but that would mean another 2" hole for the drain. Don't really want to cut another hole in the floor. 2" is way over sized for the drain port but its nearly impossible to install the drain valve with the tank in place. The drain valve has to be installed before the tank is set in place.? The 2" hole is clearance for the drain valve.

Is your filter on the suction side or the pressure side of the pump? ?I have a strainer on the suction side, and if I don't get it fastened well, it causes an air leak. ?
In your case I'd move that filter to a place you can access it. ?The filter is probably the most likely place for a leak.
